Adamek vs. Chambers: Tomasz Adamek Disappoints in Victory
After being destroyed by Vitali Klitschko, Tomasz Adamek was looking to regain some respect and momentum in the division by beating an older Eddie Chambers.
What we got was a disappointing decision win from the Polish boxing star.
After Chambers possibly tore his bicep early in the fight (h/t Boston Herald)โcompletely disabling the veteran from throwing his left handโit was expected that Adamek would run through him and make a statement to the boxing community.
Twelve rounds later, Adamek may have won the fight but there was contention that the decision could have gone either way. With Chambers fighting with one arm, there is no way Adamek can be looked at as a viable threat to the Klitschkoโs and their titles.
Chambers told the Boston Herald after the fight about how it would have ended if it wasnโt for his arm injury:
"Iโm sure I would have won the fight if I had both hands. I threw a hook off my jab and his big arm got in the way. I must have torn something in the bicep. I tried later to throw some punches with my left, but I couldnโt muscle anything with my left. I had to figure out what to do. I wouldnโt have it. I had to roll with it. If my arm fell off, I still would have been out there.
"
With the injury being serious enough to almost completely limit Chambers' offensive output from the left side, this should have been an absolute dream for Adamek. Instead, he continued to fight the same fight plan and ignore the obvious advantage.
There was no attempt to change the attack throughout the fight, which proves that Adamek doesnโt have the boxing IQ to be an elite fighter. What makes Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao great is their ability to adapt and overcome.
If Mayweather saw a boxer not using his one arm, it would take him less than a round to completely abuse his oppositionโs weakness. Poor Adamek needed a close decision to come away with a win.
As good as this made Chambers look, Adamek proved he is nothing. We can expect a matchup against Wladimir Klitschko next for the Polish star; he will get knocked out.
