Aaron Judge, Yankees Score 13 Runs in Inning vs. A's, Full Stats From Historic Frame
The New York Yankees had a historic inning against the Athletics on Sunday.
The Yankees scored 13 runs in the third inning, making them the first team in American League history to score that many runs in a game, all in a single inning. It has happened twice in the National League.
The Yankees, who lead the majors in home runs this year, somehow got all of their runs across without leaving the yard.
Paul Goldschmidt got things started with an infield single with the bases loaded before Ben Rice hit a double, scoring a pair of runs. Aaron Judge hit an RBI single and Jose Caballero drew a bases-loaded walk to tack on two more runs.
Trent Grisham's single to center led to two more runs, while Anthony Volpe scored another with an RBI single. A double from Max Schuemann, a triple from Rice and a single from Cody Bellinger brought across the final five runs of the frame.
The Athletics eventually got out of the inning when Grisham flied out to right field.
The Yankees were just one run shy of tying their previous record for runs in an inning.
Perhaps the strangest part of Sunday's game is that the Yankees not only didn't record a run for the rest of the game, but they didn't even get another hit and had just one base runner after the third.
That allowed the Athletics to stay in the game, but they ultimately couldn't overcome the 10-run deficit as New York held on to win 13-8. The Yankees won two of three games against the Athletics and will head back to the Bronx this week for a series against the Cleveland Guardians.
