Le Mans 2012 Results: Audi Will Continue Dominance into Race's Second Day
The sixth hour of performance racing's incredible endurance race is in the books. Audi currently holds three of the top five positions with Toyota and Lola mixed in as well.
After six hours, the Le Mans leaderboard looks like this.
| Position | Team | Driver | Laps |
| 1 | Audi | Treluyer | 89 |
| 2 | Toyota | Nakajima | 89 |
| 3 | Audi | Kristensen | 89 |
| 4 | Audi | Rockenfeller | 88 |
| 5 | Lola | Jani | 87 |
| 6 | Lola | Primat | 87 |
| 7 | HPD | Chandhok | 87 |
| 8 | Oak | Baguette | 86 |
| 9 | Morgan | Pla | 85 |
| 10 | HPD | Smith | 85 |
Audi's dominance should be obvious. Holding three of the race's top five spots is not easy, even with three-quarters of the race remaining.
Through five hours, Toyota held two of the top five spots but their second car is now seven laps behind the leader.
The sixth hour of the race was run under caution following Andrew Davidson's crash into the barrier at Mulsanne corner. Davidson appears to be fine, but the race's lull certainly altered the atmosphere.
The race is sure to hold more eye-catching events. The seventh hour of the race is underway, and action will continue well into Sunday afternoon. Cars will rise up the leaderboard, fall by the wayside and jockey their way toward Le Mans' fame.
Marcel Fassler will attempt to build on Benoit Treluyer's success in the Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro car. Kazuki Nakajima will try to bolster Toyota's success.
The race's second day will hold more driver changes, but Audi's dominance will not be altered. They have won 10 of the last 12 Le Mans contests, and their dominance over Circuit de la Sarthe is well documented.
There's still a ton of racing left to do, but Audi's strong showing will not go away. It almost never does, and history stands to repeat itself in this year's ultimate test of endurance.
