Florida State Football: Breaking Down Newest Pair of 2013 'Noles Commitments
After a slow start on the recruiting trail for 2013, Florida State and head coach Jimbo Fisher jumpstarted their latest class with verbal commitments from two of the most explosive playmakers on offense in the state of Florida.
Miami (FL) Columbus wide receiver Jesus Wilson pulled the trigger yesterday afternoon, and was joined by one of the nation’s top running back prospects—St. Petersburg (FL) Catholic star Ryan Green—later in the evening.
The duo brings FSU’s class to 12 commitments total thus far—and helped them jump up to No. 12 in the latest 247 Sports team rankings.
Wilson is a 5’10”, 175-pound receiver who will likely work in the slot on the collegiate level—and he’s a perfect complement to FSU’s other receiver commitment, Orlando (FL) Evans product Tony Stevens.
Wilson chose the Seminoles over offers from Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Louisville and Mississippi State, amongst others.
The 3-star prospect was named the wide receiver MVP at the Miami Nike Football Training Camp held in April.
Wilson was an integral part of his team’s 13-1 finish last season, as he racked up 28 receptions for 456 yards and scored 11 total touchdowns (eight receiving).
In an interview with Chris Hays of the Orlando Sentinel, Wilson outlined how Fisher plans to use him when he arrives in Tallahassee next summer.
“They can use me as kick returner, punt returner…multiple positions, slot, wideout...use me on jet sweeps and screens,” Wilson said. “I play both ways now so I can do a lot of things.”
Meanwhile, Green—who made his decision after returning from a trip to FSU for the Jimbo Fisher Camp—fills a huge need for Fisher in this cycle.
The 5’10”, 195-pound Green is rated as the No. 36 player in the country in the latest ESPN 150, and recently accepted an invitation to play in the Under-Armour All-American game as a slot receiver and return specialist.
Green chose the Seminoles over offers from Notre Dame, Florida, Alabama, Auburn and Oregon, amongst several others.
The consensus 4-star prospect has rushed for 2,582 yards and 37 touchdowns over his last two seasons—and was the top target on the running back board, according to Josh Newberg of Noles247.com.
With Fisher securing another pair of dynamic weapons for his offense, the 2013 class got a much needed spark that could help them make another run towards signing a top-five class next February.
