Robert Nkemdiche Commits to Clemson: Odds No. 1 Recruit Changes His Mind

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

The top 2013 commitment in Robert Nkemdiche has shocked the college football world and picked the Clemson Tigers over every other top school in the country. The five-star recruit decided to team up with his high school teammates in defensive back David Kamara and running back Wayne Gallman, who have also decided to join Clemson.

Nkemdiche is a five-star recruit and considered by most top recruiting sites to be not only the best defensive end in the 2013 class, but also the best overall recruit. He already has the collegiate body at 6'4", 270 pounds. His athletic ability is through the roof; he is versatile and watching him on film gives you the feeling that he is the next "can't miss" prospect.

But while everybody is going nuts over the fact that a top prospect picked the Clemson Tigers, nothing is official quite yet. We're still several months away before national signing day when he will be able to sign the letter of intent. Until then, coaches such as Nick Saban and Les Miles will continue to push hard for his services.

Will the five-star recruit cave in to the pressure?

It's really hard to believe so. We are talking about three kids from the same high school that have decided to join forces and go to college together. It seems like this was the plan all along, as this isn't usually something you see every day. Word is that all three players are very close and don't have any plans of switching their mind anytime soon.

Another thing is that this is no longer the Clemson teams that you are used to watching. Head coach Dabo Swinney has done a terrific job the last four seasons, winning 60 percent of his games and leading the Tigers to their first BCS bowl game last season. The recruiting is up and the quality of the product on the field has improved drastically.

Then you add the fact that Clemson is not that far from his home in Loganville, GA, it makes this choice seem very difficult to pass up on.

Sure, we can never count out teams such as Alabama, LSU, Texas and others, but it seems like Clemson is now the team to beat. We could not say that a couple weeks ago, but that's the way that it is now and I don't see that changing from now until national signing day. Congratulations to the Clemson coaching staff, they pulled off a hell of an upset before the season has even began.
