Twitter, Message Board Reaction to Robert Nkemdiche's Commitment to Clemson

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

If you have not heard the news by now, you have probably just gotten onto the Internet, or you do not own a Twitter account. (Seriously, how could you possibly not own a Twitter account?)

The top recruit in the country, Robert Nkemdiche, has decided to stick it to schools such as Alabama, Texas, Florida, LSU and Oregon, to join the Clemson Tigers. No, you did not read that incorrectly, the 5-star recruit will pack his bags for Clemson, SC.

He is a 6'4", 270-pound beast at the defensive end position, although he can play nearly any position you ask of him. He has ridiculous athleticism, gets off the ball extremely quick and covers a ton of ground from sideline-to-sideline.

Here are some of the reactions around the world.

"

According to TigerIllustrated.com, the nation's No. 1 recruit Robert Nkemdiche has committed to #Clemson

— Brian Perroni (@bperroni) June 14, 2012"

And then it all began.

"

Good luck. Saban won't go cheaply or quietly RT @jcshurburtt: Confirmed- Nation’s No. 1 for 2013 Robert Nkemdiche to #Clemson

— Chris Hengst (@ShootyHoops) June 14, 2012"

No he won't. Head coach Nick Saban usually gets what he wants when it comes to landing top recruits. That is why this commitment comes as such a surprise to everyone around college football. These next several months should get real interesting.

"

Clemson gets a committment from the nations top recruit in Robert Nkemdiche, now only 237 days until National Signing Day!!

— Mark B Sturgis (@SturgisSports) June 14, 2012"

With national signing day being so far away, a commitment never means anything until that letter of intent is signed. We have seen numerous times where players go back on their word. Clemson fans should enjoy the moment, but remember, there is always that chance...

"

@geauxwolverines Wait what?! I thought Robert Nkemdiche was a #BAMA lock? That's what the insiders at BamaOnline said. LMAO!

— Kevin Russo (@krusso14) June 14, 2012"

You have to respect the love that LSU Tiger fans have toward the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama coming up short with a top recruit is something Tigers fans can get used to, even if it means they don't land him either.

"

Last July, Robert Nkemdiche gave me a top five of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, FSU and Miami.Crazy how much things change in a year.

— Andrew Bone (@AndrewJBone) June 14, 2012"

Many of those schools were considered to be the front-runners just days ago. You never know what is going to happen in sports, and you certainly never know what these kids are thinking at the end of the day.

"

Robert Nkemdiche has committed to #Clemson but I'm hearing he did so without his father on board. This one ain't over.

— Barton Simmons (@bartonsimmons) June 14, 2012"

While Clemson may have landed the top recruit, it is kind of odd that he would do so without his father's consent. Was this just a quick-reaction commitment where Nkemdiche got caught up in the moment, or is this a legitimate commitment? Only time will tell.

"

Dabo Swinney is getting it done at Clemson. The nation's #1 recruit, Robert Nkemdiche, just committed.

— Joel Hines (@JoelHines) June 14, 2012"

Swinney is doing a fantastic job for Clemson. He has won 60 percent of his games as a head coach and led the Tigers to their first BCS bowl game last season. Now landing top recruits like this, it looks like Clemson is quickly becoming a team you have to watch out for.

"

I'm personally shocked by the Robert Nkemdiche news. He told me his top three was East Carolina, Tulsa and UTEP. I've been duped.

— Bryan Holt (@Bryan_Holt) June 14, 2012"

While everyone is surprised that Nkemdiche ended up at Clemson, it would have been 100 times worse if he ended up at any of those schools.

"

I wonder how much money Clemson is paying Robert Nkemdiche. Nobody with offers from Bama, LSU, & Oregon wants to play for Clemson instead

— T Schlautman (@theSchlautgun) June 14, 2012"

Let the conspiracy theories begin.

"

pumped that clemson got the #1 recruit in Robert Nkemdiche, but how the heck is his last name pronounced?

— Zack Robinson (@ctigers92) June 14, 2012"

I'm sure in a couple of years, everybody will know exactly how to pronounce and even spell his name.

Fan AUtitude may have the reason as to why Clemson landed the 5-star player.

"

Boy...... Dabo Swinney has offered everyone at Grayson HS a scholarship just to get Robert Nkemdiche to come to Clemson

— AUtitude (@AUtitude) June 14, 2012"

Clemson has already received commitments from two of Nkemdiche's teammates in defensive back David Kamara and running back Wayne Gallman. It likely played a huge part in his decision to pick the Tigers.

"

If nation's #1 recruit Robert Nkemdiche sticks w Clemson, it'd be 1st time since '03 ACC landed top prospect (Ernie Sims).

— Bruce Feldman (@BFeldmanCBS) June 14, 2012"

Maybe this is the beginning of something? Who knows? But this is a huge commitment, if it holds up.

"

Lots of tweets about this not sticking. I think it does, super tight with teammates especially Kamara. #Clemson recruiting is off the hook

— Mike Farrell (@rivalsmike) June 14, 2012"

We have seen loyalty play a big part in the recruiting process before. Most recruits prefer to stay close to home or follow teammates to a certain school. This may have been the X-Factor in landing the top recruit.

"

— Wayne Gallman (@Wanye_Kanye) June 14, 2012"

And there you have it ladies and gentlemen. All three players (David Kamara, Wayne Gallman and Robert Nkemdiche) in their new unis.
