US Open Golf 2012 Live: Analyzing Early-Day Performances
The first round of the 2012 U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco is underway and the favorites have been unimpressive so far.
All scores can be tracked at the U.S. Open website.
No player will have a round like Rory McIlroy had in 2011 in the early goings of this year’s tournament.
No player has clearly distinguished himself from the start, but here are the top storylines from the first few rounds of the tournament.
Lefty’s Lost Ball
Phil Mickelson’s poor form continued in San Francisco. In his last outing, Mickelson shot a 79 in his opening round at the Memorial Tournament and withdrew from competition.
With his first shot since that lackluster performance, Lefty botched his tee shot and lost his ball.
He eventually recovered to save a bogey, but he was four shots over par after 12 holes.
Tiger Leads the Super Group
Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson were paired together in the first round.
Mickelson’s struggles have been noted, and Watson has not performed any better. The Masters Champion shot six over in his first 12 holes.
Woods, on the other hand, has managed to turn in a decent performance and is even through 12 holes.
He has been hinting at a breakthrough performance in recent months, and he is in position to deliver in San Francisco.
Jason Bohn Leads Early
American Jason Bohn is atop the leaderboard in the early action.
He has shot three under par through 11 holes and has the rest of the field nipping at his heals.
Fellow American Kevin Na is two under par after 12 holes while there are several players at one under.
No one is looking exceptionally dominant at this point and nothing about the early goings suggests that fans will not be treated to an exciting finish
