Manchester City Transfers: 6 Big Players Sky Blues Still Can Capture
Manchester City are yet to announce their first signing of the summer transfer window. With Chelsea having already captured Eden Hazard and Marko Marin, Arsenal purchasing Lukas Podolski and Manchester United signing Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell, the champions are looking for the select few to bring in.
Roberto Mancini may have won the English Premier League title, but he did not win it in any way comfortably. There are still many areas in which the Sky Blues can improve, and there are multiple players still out there for whom the club could still make a move.
However, some of those moves need to be quick if they are going to get anything done ahead of their competition, both domestically and on the continent. With that being said, here are six players that the Sky Blues could still have a chance at bringing in when they make a move.
Edinson Cavani
1 of 6Manchester City continue their pursuit of Edinson Cavani despite the announcements today by Crunch Sports that the Napoli and Uruguayan striker will cost at least €70 million.
Chelsea are reportedly the Sky Blues' biggest opponent for the talented South American, who was the star for the Neapolitans all season and helped win the Italian Cup with two goals against Juventus in his last club match of May.
Even at the high price, there is a chance that City could still sign the player, as they have multiple surplus strikers from Emmanuel Adebayor to even Edin Dzeko that could be used as additional makeweights with a cash payout.
Robin van Persie
2 of 6Although it has been said multiple times that Robin van Persie will not join a rival club in England if he is sold, that does not rule out the possibility of the Gunners selling him to City.
Arsene Wenger's club have supplied the current English Premier League champions with at least a player each of the last few seasons, between Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri.
A massive offer from City could be too much for the Gunners to refuse if Wenger has more high-profile targets he wants to pursue with RVP heading out the door.
Ibrahim Afellay
3 of 6Although he seems like a value buy, would it be so wrong for the Citizens to actually be a little thrifty? Perhaps not, and a budget signing like Barcelona's Netherlands midfielder and wide player Ibrahim Afellay would be a great addition.
TalkSport claimed that Afellay was expected to be available for a a fee of £6 million, which is a drop in the coffer for the Premier League champions.
Afellay could add some dynamism that perhaps James Milner has available to himself but never seems to produce.
Wesley Sneijder
4 of 6I promise that I am not trying to push the entire Netherlands lineup towards Eastlands, but there is truth that the addition of Wesley Sneijder is still all entirely possible for Manchester City.
The Inter Milan midfielder has been rumored on the way out of the San Siro for the last year after major rumors of him making a move to Manchester Untied surfaced at the beginning of the 2011-12 campaign.
In the wake of Inter Milan's worst finish in years and the worst European tournament performance of the Netherlands history, Sneijder truly may decide that over the summer it is time to move, as Roberto Mancini still believed to be looking at new midfielders to add to his crop of stars.
Although Inter reportedly rejected an offer for the player in early June according to Metro, there is still plenty of time for that to change.
Luka Modric
5 of 6Although rumors have emerged that Luka Modric is very close to make a move to Real Madrid and the Spanish capital (according to ESPNsoccernet), it was not to long ago that Modric was linked with a summer move to Manchester City by the Guardian.
If Manchester City can offer a massive wage package just as Real Madrid is expected to make, then it would be possible for Modric to move to Eastlands. The deciding factor would likely be if City is willing to offer Tottenham more up front than Madrid.
Cheick Tioté
6 of 6Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote could be a great addition to Manchester City. Nigel de Jong has been rumored to be making a switch to Arsenal in a rare move for a Gunner to go south and not north from Manchester, according to the Daily Mirror.
If De Jong leaves on top of Owen Hargreaves having been released after a disappointing return to top football, the holding midfield will be in need of the steal that Tiote can offer.
