US Open Golf 2012: Why Tiger Woods Will Be Victorious

Shane DarrowJun 13, 2012

On Thursday morning, the 112th United States Open will tee off at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California. The last nine U.S. Opens have seen nine different winners from all over the world. But this year, everything will seem back to normal because Tiger Woods will win this tournament.

The U.S. Open hasn't been played on this course since 1998, when American Lee Janzen won it with an even-par 280. Here are a few reasons why Tiger will continue the American trend on the Lake Course at the Olympic Club.

Tiger's Aggressiveness

As I mentioned earlier, the last time this course was played, Lee Janzen won it with even par. Tiger Woods is not the type of player who plays shots safe. He has always been aggressive, and he has always risen above pressure situations to hit amazing shots. Tiger will either win this tourney by one or two shots or lose it by 10.

There is a great possibility that this tournament will come down to one shot during the final stretch of holes, and those are the situations in which Woods has always shined. Tiger is not the type of player who is going to lay off when given the chance to pull out the three-metal and fire for the green, and he is not the type of player to try to lag a 40-foot putt when he believes he can drain it.

His aggressiveness and fearless shot selection will lead him to another United States Open Championship.

The Past is Finally Behind Him

Tiger seems to finally be playing with a level mind, even though it has been years since the illustrious scandal that will forever plague his career. It took a lot longer than anyone could have imagined, but after all the changes Tiger has made, he is mainly focused back on golf and that is great for the PGA Tour.

He was criticized for every change he made, whether it was a new swing coach, new caddy or any adjustment he made to his personal life. When the scandal was still on everybody's minds, it appeared that he was trying too hard to win back his fans and his sponsors.

But now, his infamous fist pump is back, and although Tiger has won back some hearts already, he is ready to win back them all.

He Has All the Momentum

When Tiger was dominating the PGA Tour a few years back, I believe a main reason was that he was the best, he knew he was the best, and the rest of the tour knew he was the best. He had a certain swagger about himself that when he stepped onto the first tee on a Thursday morning, everyone surrounding him knew that he was going to win.

After his remarkable victory at the Memorial on May 31st, the entire tour knows that Tiger is back. It wasn't just the fact that he won, it was how he won—in typical Tiger fashion. I know he rarely comes back in the final round to win tournaments, but hitting what Jack Nicklaus said was the "most unbelievable, gutsy shot" he'd ever seen on the 69th hole is old-school Tiger Woods fashion.

It is Tiger's Tour once again, and he will take one more step toward breaking Jack's all-time major wins record when he takes the U.S. Open this weekend.
