WWE No Way Out 2012: The Top 5 Reasons to Order It

Jun 7, 2018

This Sunday, World Wrestling Entertainment presents its June pay-per-view extravaganza, No Way Out.

The show, headlined by a steel cage match between John Cena and The Big Show, is considered one of the company's B-level events, but does that classification alone make it a show worth skipping?

Not necessarily. There are plenty of reasons to tap the "order" button on your cable remote before Sunday.

Here are five.

AJ and the WWE Championship Match

1 of 5

One of the biggest complaints of the current WWE product is the lack of interesting storylines. In recent months, however, the company has produced an intriguing story that will, in all likelihood, climax at Sunday's event.

For months, AJ pledged her allegiance to Daniel Bryan, even when he was at his verbally abusive best. Recently, however, she has taken a liking to WWE champion CM Punk.

Yet just when it looked like she may have chosen his side in the rivalry with Bryan over the gold, Kane was interjected into the program, and AJ almost immediately turned her attention to the Big Red Monster.

Promising this past Monday on Raw that the "best man will win" at No Way Out, wrestling fans should feel a certain amount of intrigue when it comes to the WWE Championship match.

Combined with these interesting plot twists, add the fact that two of the best professional wrestlers in the world—and one of the most overt characters of all time—are involved, and you have all the reason to be excited about the triple threat match for the company's top prize.

The Vince McMahon Factor

2 of 5

Generally speaking, Vince McMahon does not involve himself in a storyline unless it is important.

This Sunday, Vince will almost certainly be involved in the steel cage match between John Cena and The Big Show. While the match itself may not be one that has fans excited, the extracurricular activities surrounding the match should be more than interesting.

With a major stipulation reportedly added to the No Way Out main event (Warning: link contains spoilers), what Vince does during the contest could not only influence the match itself, it could alter the immediate future of the company.

It could also have an effect on the longer-term future of a very status-quo World Wrestling Entertainment as it hits the peak summer months. Everything involving the owner of the company is big and meaningful, something that has been proved many times in the past.

Come Sunday night, it will likely be proved again.

Sheamus' Hot Streak

3 of 5

Regardless of your opinions of the current World Heavyweight Champion, it is hard to deny his recent streak of high quality pay-per-view bouts.

At Extreme Rules, he had what many consider to be the finest match of his young career, a Best 2-out-of-3 Falls match against former champion Daniel Bryan. He followed that up with a tremendous showing at May's Over the Limit in a Fatal Four-Way Match that saw him defend his title against Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, and Alberto Del Rio.

Couple those bouts with great matches against Orton and Dolph Ziggler on recent Smackdown telecasts and there is no reason to believe the Superstar dubbed as "The Great White" cannot continue his recent roll of performances Sunday.

Especially with a talent such as WWE's resident "show-off" Ziggler, who will be looking to capitalize on a huge opportunity.

Dolph Ziggler's Moment

4 of 5

For months, fans have championed for Dolph Ziggler to receive a well-deserved, long-awaited push into the main event scene.

It took two suspensions and an ill-timed and unfortunate injury to get there, but this Sunday, Dolph will finally have his moment in the spotlight when he challenges Sheamus for the World Heavyweight Championship.

For the first time in his career, Ziggler will challenge for one of the the top two championships in the sport on a pay-per-view event other than the Royal Rumble. Over the last year, he has evolved into one of the very best workers in World Wrestling Entertainment, but has seen his efforts go unrecognized.

Now with all eyes on him against a Superstar attempting to forge his own legacy as World Heavyweight Championship, Dolph will attempt to give the performance of his career to ensure that the next time he is involved in a pay-per-view title match—and not as a last minute replacement, but as a guy the company deemed worthy of the spot.

Considering Ziggler's history of performances in the few big match situations he has been allowed in, who could bet against him?

The "Big Angle" Potential

5 of 5

Every summer, WWE seems inclined to produce a major angle or storyline to help drive in new viewers during a period of the year where ratings have a tendency to sag.

In the last few years, that angle has occurred in mid-to-late June.

The D-Generation X Reunion.

The Nexus.

The Summer of Punk.

With the recent trend by the company to use pay-per-view events to set up the following night's Raw, the big summer angle of 2012 could very well unfold at No Way Out.

Could that include the debut of a new talent? Or perhaps it will involve a major angle featuring a star already on the roster.

Whatever the case may be, missing No Way Out could very well mean missing the one event that sets the stage for Raw's 1000th episode—the Money in the Bank event in July—or any number of major WWE productions for months to come.
