Pacquiao vs. Bradley: WBO Set to Review Controversial Decision in Title Clash
Upset boxing fans may soon get some much-needed closure when it comes to Saturday night's title fight between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley.
The news comes from the Associated Press' Dave Skretta, via Yahoo! Sports:
"WBO President Francisco ''Paco'' Valcarcel said in a statement Wednesday that the WBO's championship committee will review video of the fight with five ''recognized international judges'' and make a recommendation. He said the WBO does not doubt the ability of the scoring judges.
"
Bradley moved up in weight in order to take on Pacquiao for his WBO Welterweight title at the MGM Grand on Saturday night.
Desert Storm was awarded the victory via split decision after judges Duane Ford and C.J. Ross both scored the fight 115-113 in his favor, but that's where the controversy started.
The majority of fans and experts alike had Pacquiao winning the fight, and some had it in a lopsided fashion. The unpopular decision has put the boxing world in a stir.
As a result, Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters and was equally appalled by the decision, has sought further clarity about the scoring of the fight, as he told the Associated Press:
"The public saw the fight and they're outraged, and we need clarity here. We need those responsible to investigate, to see what happened, how the judges could be so off.
"
While an overturn of the fight result is very unlikely at this point, boxing fans at least want to see the judges responsible held accountable for their questionable decision-making.
This is the first step in making that happen.
