Players to Watch
No man comes into the U.S. Open with more weight on his shoulders than Phil Mickelson. After coming in second place five times without a win, those statistics tend to weigh on a person.
While the course is arguably tougher now than at any point in history, Mickelson’s skill set is perfect for the length of a course like The Olympic. If Lefty brings his big driver, there is no reason he won’t be in on the decision Sunday.
Probably collecting the second-place trophy…
Bubba Watson
In his first Major since winning the 2012 Masters, Bubba Watson will try to use the momentum it created to take him to another huge career victory.
Watson had a solid fifth-place finish at the U.S. Open in 2007, but success hasn’t found its way into his game like it has lately. With two wins in 2011 and one already in 2012, there is little doubt that Watson can be a serious contender this weekend.
Predicted Winner: Tiger Woods
With two wins in 2012, including the Memorial tournament, Tiger Woods is starting to regain his form of old, but more importantly, is looking happy playing golf.
That’s bad news for his competition.
If Woods finds his rhythm early in this tournament, there is a chance he could hold on to it and steal another Major. The sport of golf would be so much better with the return of the old Tiger.
