Pacquiao vs. Bradley: WBO Will Review Fight Scoring

Kevin McRaeJun 13, 2012

According to ESPN.com boxing analyst Dan Rafael, the World Boxing Organization plans to review Timothy Bradley's controversial victory over Manny Pacquiao this past Saturday night in Las Vegas.

The review comes in light of public outcry over the verdict which most, if not all, felt should've gone to Pacquiao by a wide margin.

WBO president Francisco Valcarcel, who was in attendance for the fight, told ESPN that his championship committee will "meet soon" and "will examine (the fight) with five recognized international judges to evaluate the video of the match and agree to what emerges."

This review is the latest piece of fallout to emerge from the controversial decision. Earlier in the week Top Rank CEO, and promoter of both Pacquiao and Bradley, Bob Arum filed formal paperwork with the Attorney General of Nevada seeking an inquiry into scoring.

Also, the Nevada State Athletic Commission, under executive director Keith Kizer, announced plans to review the scoring with the judges. It should be noted that Kizer pointed out that this step was routine and not a signal of pending disciplinary action.

Similarly, the WBO has gone to pains to point out that the review is also not aimed at impugning the integrity of judges Duane Ford and C.J. Ross—who scored the fight 115-113 for Bradley.

"I want to clarify that in no way does this say we are doubting the capacity of these judges, which we consider as honest and competent judges," Valcarcel said.

As a result of this action, the WBO could order a rematch—something that Pacquiao already has the right to force due to his contract—or could even refuse to recognize Bradley as their champion.
