US Open Odds 2012: Rory McIlroy and More Favorites Worth a Wager
The 2012 US Open begins today, and tons of hopeful golfers will be teeing off shortly. With so much talent in the field, it’s tough to narrow down just which competitors are worthy of placing a wager on.
Fortunately, it seems that some of the favorites in this tournament have some great odds.
Let’s take a look at who you should focus on when attempting to pick a winner.

Tiger Woods – 13/2
Tiger is a favorite with the fans and the bookmakers in Vegas for this major. He’s had some historical success here, with wins in 2000 at Pebble Beach, 2002 at Old Bethpage, and 2008 at Torrey Pines.
He’s going to try and turn his major tailspin around by winning his first since that ’08 US Open and had his career derailed by scandals.
Woods should never be counted out and has been looking better and better as of late, especially after winning the 2012 Memorial.
Rory McIlroy – 14/1
The defending champion has great odds to repeat in 2012. Rory captured his first and only major title last year, and should be able to push up near the front by Sunday if he plays his cards right.
The young man will be coupled with Lee Westwood and Luke Donald, two of the best golfers in the world, albeit ones who have never won a major. Look for them to push Rory to his best.
Phil Mickelson – 20/1
Speaking of star-studded threesomes, how about Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Bubba Watson?
These are three of the most recognisable golfers on the planet, and the winners of eight combined Masters and three US Open titles.
Phil has been playing some nice golf as of late, and has done historically well in recent years with Tiger in his grouping.
Look for Lefty to make a strong push to win this tournament, just like he did at Augusta earlier in the year.
