Pacquiao vs Bradley Results: Why Pacman Should Retire After Horrific Decision
What's the point?
I've gone over this ridiculous Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley fight—the one in which Pacman "won" but was credited with the "loss" you know the one—and I can't get over one thing.
If I'm Manny Pacquiao, why would I keep fighting?
Seriously, jump into the head of the best pound-for-pound fighter for just a second.
By almost everyone's account, you just destroyed the undefeated Timothy Bradley in a bout that many (this writer included, I'll admit it) picked the upset beforehand.
And even for those who don't think you destroyed Desert Storm, they at least think—nay, know—you beat him by a little bit.
There are two people in the world who think you lost the fight, and those two happened to be sitting ringside with a scorecard in front of them.
Now, hold on.
You just put your budding political career on hold for several months to train your, ahem, keester off in order to prepare for this fight. You likely shut down a large portion of what life you had, but it paid off.
The hard work, the dedication, the love for the game. It all paid off. You got the win and put another notch in your "best boxer ever" belt.
Wait.
No you didn't. You got screwed. You put in all that hard work and did absolutely everything you could for naught.
What. Is. The. Point.
Sure, Pacquiao could put the rematch clause into effect and come out and beat Bradley again, but everyone already knows he can beat Bradley. It's an absolute lose-lose situation for Pacman.
He could wait until Floyd Mayweather, who reportedly wants to retire (again), gets out of jail and try to set up the mega-fight everyone wants to see, but let's be honest, that's never going to happen.
There are too many issues in the way.
He could fight Miguel Cotto, but he's beaten him. He could fight Juan Manuel Marquez, but he's beaten him twice.
Really, the only possible reason I could see Manny Pacquiao returning is so he could give a giant middle finger to boxing. Come back, knock out whomever he wants to face and say, "Hey, I don't need your stupid judges."
But that's a bit of a stretch.
Not only was last Saturday's decision one of the worst ever, it was especially crushing. Why would Manny Pacquiao continue to risk his health if there is even the slightest possibly of his bouts being judged unfairly?
What's the point?
