Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley: Most Shocking Reactions to Fight's Outcome

Mike MoraitisJun 7, 2018

The only thing worse than the outcome of the Manny Pacquiao versus Timothy Bradley fight has been the reactions of the people surrounding the fight, whether they were involved directly or not.

Everyone seems to have an opinion—including yours truly—and some of the quotes from analysts and even the fighters themselves have been nothing short of bizarre.

Here are some of the reactions to this shocking decision from different people in the sport of boxing.

Bradley's Reaction

The only people on this planet who think Desert Storm legitimately won this fight are the judges who scored in favor of Bradley, his camp and, of course, Bradley himself.

While it's not surprising Bradley isn't throwing up his hands and admitting he got beat, it was surprising to see his reaction to the fight as a whole, per ESPN.com.

"I thought I won the fight," Bradley said. "I didn't think he was as good as everyone says he was. I didn't feel his power."

Didn't feel his power? Clearly Desert Storm did as evidenced by the fact that Bradley was routinely stumbling across the ring during the fight when Pacquiao rained down on him with powerful blows.

If you still don't believe it, just take Bob Arum's word for it.

Arum's Reaction

The promoter of this fight, Arum is playing innocent despite the fact that speculation is running rampant that he had something to do with this controversial decision.

Putting that aside, Arum saw the dominance displayed by Pac-Man over Bradley in this fight and saw exactly what the rest of us saw when Desert Storm nearly got knocked out during the bout.

Arum shared his feelings on Fox Sports Radio, per SportsRadioInterviews.com.

“If Bradley had continued to fight as aggressively as he had fought in the earlier rounds Manny would’ve knocked him out probably but Bradley eased up in the last three rounds and once a fighter eases up he becomes very difficult to knock out.”

Just another example of just how one-sided this fight truly was, no matter what a couple of incompetent judges might have said.

Judge Reaction

Speaking of incompetent judges, Duane Ford was one of the two infamous scorers who gave Bradley the decision despite watching the same beat down the rest of us saw.

However, Ford explained his decision, but didn't make it any better for himself in the process thanks to the insertion of his foot in his mouth, courtesy of Scott Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"I thought Bradley gave Pacquiao a boxing lesson," said Ford, who has worked as a judge in Nevada since the late 1970s and admitted he didn't see the final punch stats. "I thought a lot of the rounds were close. Pacquiao missed a lot of punches and I thought he was throwing wildly."

No matter how wildly Ford thought Pac-Man was throwing punches, he still landed nearly 100 more than his opponent. He was more aggressive and threw his punches with more power than Bradley for the majority of the fight.

The only lesson learned here is to not leave the fate of a boxing match up to the judge's scorecards.

Teddy Atlas Reaction

After the fight, ESPN boxing analyst Teddy Atlas shared his opinion on the fight in a post-fight interview on ESPN.

"Unfortunately, the scorers of fights are incompetent. Sometimes they're more than incompetent. Sometimes they're corrupt..."

Atlas' admission of potential corruption in this decision makes matters even worse for the sport. When you can't get the support of the biggest diehards--media and analysts--there is something truly wrong.

The boxing analyst gave a voice to the many who believe this fight was a sham. On top of that, Atlas added legitimacy to conspiracy theories with his brutally honest opinion.

Dan Rafael Reaction

Another damning assessment of this fight's decision comes from ESPN boxing analyst Dan Rafael who shared his honest opinion.

"The decision will go down as one of the worst, most bogus calls in the whole history of boxing. It was a disgrace. Shameful. Pathetic. We are not talking about a fight that was really close with several tight rounds that could have gone either way, so reasonable people can have a different opinion. No, we're talking about a fight that Pacquiao dominated."

No room for debate on that one.

Rafael's words are strong, but fair. He shares the same viewpoint as not only boxing fans, but others close to the sport who agree with the obvious notion that Pacquiao defeated Bradley hands down.
