So the WWE Is PG: The Positives and Negatives
For a long time now the WWE has been PG-13, and some say they could be rated R sometimes with what we have seen over the years. With censors on their heels for live shows, it was still a great time in wrestling.
Under the PG-13 rating we have seen things such as D-Generation X. I mean, without this rating, what would DX do? All of the crude humor, and other stuff they are famous for would be gone.
We have seen the clean versions of them, yet it just seems as if it is not enough. Heck, they are not allowed to say "Suck It" on WWE TV. Sure, PPVs may have it from time to time, and maybe they can get away with it every now and then on live shows.

But, for the most part, it is gone. Also, matches like the TLC, Steel Cage, and Elimination Chamber are not as good to people. I mean, where is the blood? OK, we can do without a guy like Ric Flair who bleeds seemingly every time in a match.
But why can we not see it? Also, John Cena's finisher has been changed to the Attitude Ajustment instead of the well-known "F-U." Cena claims that it was done during a rivalry with Brock Lesnar who did the "F-5."
And announcers just picked it up and said it. So then the move name was given, and he never had a say. But, seriously, how well did it fit with his character? Perfectly, to me.
Kelly Kelly was asked on a radio show if the WWE was having a Bra and Panties match or other Diva gimmick match soon. She responded by saying "No, we are PG now." Which is tough to hear for male fans, and maybe a few women. I don't judge.
OK, I know the WWE wants to appeal to the kids and be a family show. But how many of us were kids watching the WWE years ago in the PG-13 rating?
You all would have to say you were—unless you were born in 2008, of course. (In that case, I wouldn't expect you to be able to read this. But I digress.)
So, that means that the WWE was a show the kids watched. Heck, more fans now are from the Attitude Era of the '90s. And they were younger guys watching the WWE.
So what is wrong with keeping the PG-13 rating? You appealed to kids before, and you will appeal to kids now just as much. You will not attain new fans with this PG rating to me. You have the same fans as you did before.
And, actually, you may be losing some, like the most important ones. The fans such as the 18-30 demographic. The demographic which helps to control the future of the company.
But hey, the PG rating is not all bad. There is a small good bit of things happening with it. First off, it means less cursing, which really is not needed to put a point out there.
Also, it opens up a good bit of things for them. Before with a PG-13 rating, they were not able to be on kid programming as much. Channels such as Nickelodeon and Disney Channel are able to use them more.
Nick and Disney are the two powerhouses in kid programming, and having them on your side as sponsors helps. Also, other PG programming can use you, too, such as American Idol.
If you remember the WWE's Triple H and John Cena were on Idol last year, on the Idol Gives Back show. That helped fans come to the show.
The fact is that the PG rating opens up more places for the WWE to go. If they are PG-13 they can do well, but they can't be used in media as much as they can in PG.
Also, they still have us watching, too. JR mentioned in his blog that he has seen and heard fan complaints of the WWE. And he really doesn't get it. If they don't like it they don't have to watch.
Why complain about something and keep watching it ever week? Sure they could could be a little bit edgier, but they still have many viewers. So stop watching if you hate it.
The fact is that we as fans do not like change. Many of us, and I am no different, have been critical of certain new stars. But also they are doing things to get the 18-30 demographic to watch.
I mean, Randy Orton is doing it alone; also, John Cena's new intensity is getting more praise now more than ever. They could do more things to help themselves look better.
Jeff and Matt Hardy are the next big storyline, and the WWE is making it as real as they can in matches. Look at Orton's past few punts he has done. You can't say he faked those.
It was well sold, true. But still it was impressively done, and shocked WWE fans. And all of this has taken place under the PG rating.
I am really interested in seeing what the WWE does in the Chamber match at No Way Out Sunday. Will they make it look like they have before? Will we not see blood? It is a big question that needs to be answered.
But we will all have to witness what will happen. We may be critical now, but we should wait it out, I think. We can get used to it, and if the WWE makes it interesting like they have been. It shouldn't be different.
This has been an Assassin article.
