How Timothy Bradley's Fractured Foot Will Impact Possible Rematch

Austin GreenMay 31, 2018

Timothy Bradley put his best foot forward against Manny Pacquiao. Then, he broke it.

Bradley said he felt a pop in his left foot during the second round of the welterweight title fight in Las Vegas. His manager, Cameron Dunkin, announced that he had suffered a fracture in the foot, as well as a twisted right ankle that occurred in the fifth round.

Bradley then rolled into the post-fight press conference in a wheelchair, possibly making him the first newly-crowned champion to arrive in such a condition.

Despite the odd spectacle, however, don't expect Bradley's foot problems to cripple his chances in a potential rematch.

Bradley, Pacquiao and promoter Bob Arum all said they would be in favor of a rematch, which will likely come on November 10, about 21 weeks from today.

Given that there's roughly a six- to eight-week recovery period for a fractured foot (according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons), Bradley should have enough time to train before facing Pacquiao again.

It may not be ideal, but with Bradley's dedication to fitness, intense competitive fire and amazing willpower, I doubt this will hinder him.

Although he suffered the injuries in the middle of the fight, Bradley stayed on his feet and earned a highly controversial split-decision victory over the legendary Pacquiao. The result enraged many within the boxing community, but no one can deny that Bradley was impressive in his efforts.

If he was able to stand toe-to-toe with the most feared fighter of a generation while hobbled by two bad feet, then there's nothing to suggest that he will struggle in preparing for the rematch.
