Why Having Vince McMahon on TV Is Great for the WWE
Despite being "fired" in July, Vince McMahon will be returning to Monday Night Raw tonight to give out a performance review of the general manager of Raw and Smackdown, John Laurinaitis.
While the return makes little sense from a storyline perspective (If McMahon was fired, how does he all of the sudden have the power to potentially fire Laurinaitis?), having him return to television will provide a much-needed kick to WWE programming that has been severely lacking the last few months.
The build for the No Way Out PPV coming up this Sunday has been tremendously sub-par. The Main Event storyline between John Cena, Laurinaitis and The Big Show has been extremely lackluster and uninteresting, similar to Cena's build in his match with Laurinaitis at Over the Limit.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
The rest of the card is very weak, with the exception of CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Kane for the WWE Championship, which promises to be a great match.
But with terrible closing segments, like we saw last week on Raw with John Cena vs. Michael Cole, the WWE is shooting themselves in the foot with potential PPV buys. The fact is, no one seems to really care about this angle no matter how much they try to shove it down our throats. Nevertheless, they are committed at this point, and with only one Raw to go before No Way Out, creative desperately needed something to spice up this rivalry.
That is where the boss, McMahon, comes in. Having him show up to evaluate John Laurinaitis this week is exactly what this story needs to gain the interest of the fans. McMahon has been off the air for so long now that his return will be highly anticipated and will be sure to give Raw a ratings boost it so desperately needs.
McMahon has always been a great on screen character, and he certainly will play his part well, whether he decides to team up with Laurinaitis and Big Show and give Big Johnny a positive performance evaluation, or whether he goes the other way with it, potentially firing Laurinaitis.
Either way, I hope this signals a permanent return to television for McMahon, who has been missed over the last 10 months.
In his heyday as an on-screen character, McMahon played the perfect role of the corrupt boss while enemies like Stone Cold Steve Austin attempted to take him down and make his life a living hell. While Laurinaitis already fills the role of the on-screen, corrupt man in charge character, no one is able to do it better than McMahon.
Having McMahon return to TV and become a heel once again by teaming up with John Laurinaitis and The Big Show could be the beginning of something special moving forward, and I hope that’s where the story goes.
McMahon could be the head honcho of his stable that would include Laurinaitis working below him (much like Shane and Stephanie used to do), while Big Show, Eve, David Otunga, Tensai and others could all join together to fulfill their boss's wishes.
Creative could also opt to make Mr. McMahon a face-type character upon his return that fires Laurinaitis (or something along those lines), which would certainly gain a huge reaction from the crowd. McMahon hasn't been able to give his famous "YOU'RE FIRRRED” catchphrase in a while, and it may be the perfect time to do it tonight, perhaps with the implication of Big Show and Cena's match being involved in the decision.
The one thing I really hope they avoid is putting McMahon in any type of competitive match. McMahon wasn't the worst wrestler back in the day, but at age 66, no one wants to see him put the boots on for any reason anymore times in his career. We already have had to suffer through Laurinaitis and Michael Cole in matches recently, and enough is enough.
Whatever the story turns out to be for Vince, his presence is needed more than ever on Raw, and he will be a welcome return tonight. It may be too late to save the John Cena vs. Big Show match at No Way Out, but it still is a start and will be sure to easily eclipse last week's joke of a Main Event.
