Manny Pacquiao: Pac-Man Should Demand Rematch with Timothy Bradley
Manny Pacquiao must demand a rematch with Timothy Bradley after the fiasco that was their first meeting ended in a shameful display by the abominable judges, who determined that Bradley won the fight.
Everyone who watched the fight knows that Pac-Man won. He put Bradley in a wheelchair, for crying out loud. Okay, so maybe it wasn't as bad as all that. After all, Bradley's injuries were to his feet, but there's no doubting the fact that Pacquiao dominated the fight.
ESPN.com's Dan Rafael gives us the inside scoop as to just how dominant Pacquiao's performance was:
"The CompuBox statistics favored Pacquiao, who landed more punches than Bradley in 10 of the 12 rounds. Pacquiao landed 253 of 751 punches (34 percent), while Bradley landed 159 of 839 (19 percent). Pacquiao also landed 82 more power shots (190-108).
"
That's a massive, overwhelming statistical case against whatever it was the judges thought they saw happen in the ring. Evidence notwithstanding, the fact remains that their verdict is final.
Unfortunately, their verdict has caused one of the biggest scandals in recent memory. Pacquiao was on a tear, having won his last 15 bouts before this one—a streak that dates back to 2005, according to CBSNews.com. He should have been celebrating victory number 16 after the fight, but instead Pac-Man had to step up to a podium after the fight to say he wanted a rematch.
Rafael reports in his column that Pacquiao has a rematch clause in his contract for such an occasion as this. While nothing has been confirmed, if there were to be a rematch, it would occur on November 10, 2012.
Pacquiao must make sure this rematch happens. It's not fair that he has to do this, but fair or not, he must demand to have an opportunity to crush Bradley once and for all. He needs to have an opportunity to reclaim what should still be rightfully his—the WBO Welterweight Title.
If this were to play out the way honor demands, Pac-Man will destroy Bradley come November 10. He will have to knock him out of the fight completely to ensure he doesn't get screwed a second-straight time.
The integrity of the sport of boxing—what little it may have left—needs to see justice. Pacquiao must demand this rematch and wrench justice from the dirty hands that have corrupted the sport.
