Manny Pacquiao: Early Breakdown for Rematch vs. Tim Bradley

Ian HanfordMay 31, 2018

Tim Bradley will not benefit from questionable judging in November's rematch with Manny Pacquiao. Bradley will have to win that battle on his own.

The months leading up to this highly-anticipated welterweight bout will be spent breaking down film, analyzing each player's strengths and deciding what each fighter can improve for episode two.

There's no time like the present.

Let's take a look at how each fighter can improve for November's battle and what fans can expect from this fall's fight.

How Can Pacquiao Avenge His Loss?

Pac-Man will have one thing in mind when this November's rematch rolls around. He wants to take back his title and put himself back atop the boxing circuit.

Tactically, there isn't a lot Pacquiao needs to improve from Saturday night's bout.

In Round 1, Bradley tried to make inroads with a furious array of straights and jabs. Pacquiao showed stellar defense and withstood this attack.

Bradley's jab, and outside footing, is his only hope to beat Pacquiao's power. Defending against Desert Storm's biggest weapon neutralizes his victory hopes.

Pacquiao's precise punching power showed its true colors as the fight rolled along. He connected on multiple flurries and consistently drove Bradley backwards. At times, Bradley looked frightened.

Pac-Man must repeat this process in order to win the rematch. If he approaches this fight with the same focused frame of mind, Pacquiao will take back what is his.

Expect him to train hard for the rest of the summer. Pacquiao will be ready when Bradley comes calling again.

What Adjustments Must Bradley Make?

Bradley's defensive style simply doesn't mesh with Pacquiao's frenetic pace. He doesn't have the heavy hands needed to contend with Pac-Man's devastating assault.

If Bradley wants to change the landscape of his next bout, he will need to alter his approach.

Saturday night, Pacquiao imposed his will on Bradley. He pushed him around the ring, dictated the tempo and forced Bradley to fight his fight.

It doesn't matter how many times these two meet. Bradley will never win a fight on Pacquiao's terms.

Desert Storm has to choose his spots wisely in November. He must lead with his jab (like he did in Round 1 on Saturday) and keep Pacquiao at a distance. Keeping Pacquiao outside will diminish some of Pac-Man's power and give Bradley a chance of retaining his belt.

Fans can be sure of one thing. This rematch will be all about style and tempo.

If the fight is a wide-open slugfest, Pacquiao will hammer Bradley all night. But if Bradley can turn this into a technical battle, he can prove Saturday night's victory was not a fluke.

Prediction

Don't expect November's fight to go much differently aside from the final result. Pacquiao will dominate again, and Saturday night's discrepancy will be confirmed.

Pac-Man's style is impossible for Bradley to defend, and he doesn't have the chops to force Pacquiao to battle on his terms. He will be led around the ring again, and it could be worse this time.

In most people's eyes, Pacquiao is still the WBO welterweight champion. Winning this rematch will confirm those assumptions.

The score may be different in November, but the script stays the same. Heavy anticipation, Pacquiao's astounding power and flashes of Bradley's ability will be on display.

In the end, Pacquiao will wrap that world-championship belt around his waist once again.
