Pacquiao vs. Bradley Fight: Twitter Reacts to Bradley's Controversial Win

Richard LangfordJun 4, 2018

Twitter was in an uproar after boxing's latest attempt to baffle onlookers and destroy all credibility.

After a split decision victory in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday night, Timothy Bradley is the WBO welterweight champion. Plenty did not agree with this decision, and plenty of those took to Twitter to express their anger, puzzlement, betrayal or just their dumbfounded sense of laughter.

Here are some of the tweets that caught my eye.

For starters, not since Rocky II (this is an unofficial stat) have we seen the winner of a fight appear in a wheelchair. Yet, Yahoo's Kevin Lole was good enough to tweet the pic, here is Bradley after his triumph.

The San Francisco Chronicle's Vittorio Tafur offered up this post-fight quote by Pacquiao:

"

Pacquiao: I don't even remember him hurting me with one punch. Not one punch. Amazing what happened." ... Arum ... sulia.com/c/pacquiao-vs-…

— Vittorio Tafur (@VittorioTafur) June 10, 2012"

After watching the fight, it is easy to see how Pacquiao came to this conclusion. He didn't black out the punches that hurt him; they weren't there to begin with.

ESPN boxing analyst Nigel Collins knows this decision was so terrible that it cannot be explained away by incompetence.

"

A tragic night for Pacquiao and boxing. It was perhaps the worse dec. I've ever seen. Anybody who thinks it was incompetence is a fool.

— Nigel Collins (@ESPNFNF) June 10, 2012"

Jeremy Passion puts this ridiculousness of this decision into perfect perspective.

"

I didn’t know professional boxing was just as real as WWF.

— Jeremy Passion (@jeremypassion) June 10, 2012"

Bill Stoddart summed up a feeling that I am sure many viewers of this fight shared.

"

I paid $70 to watch the #Pacquiao fight and was ripped off by the judges... #bradley really? Worst decision in boxing history!

— Bill Stoddart (@VancouverBilly) June 10, 2012"

How badly corrupt did this decision seem? Well, Lakers Nation is saying it tops the NBA.

"

I thought I'd never see anything as Corrupt as David Stern vetoing the CP3 trade until I watched boxing tonight.

— Lakers Nation (@LakersNation) June 10, 2012"

Now that is serious!

This Twitter user viewed the travesty of judging as more than just one bad night for the sport. He sent this ominous tweet that, at this moment, does not seem to be too big a stretch of the imagination.

"

Remember this night. Tonight boxing died. #RIPboxing

— StevieJ102 (@StevieJ102) June 10, 2012"

ESPN's boxing analyst Dan Rafael, who scored the fight 119-109 in favor of Pacquiao, was at a loss for words following the decision.

"

I dont even know what to say.

— Dan Rafael (@danrafaelespn) June 10, 2012"

He ran into someone that did have some words about the decision.

"

Lampley just told me worst scoring he has EVER seen.

— Dan Rafael (@danrafaelespn) June 10, 2012"

Kiotti knows one way how this controversy could have all been averted.

"

If Pacquiao didn't want questions, should've knocked him out.

— Kiotti(@kiotti) June 10, 2012"

This is a just a sample. This decision is going to be relived for a long time, and don't expect the controversy to ever fade.
