Belmont Stakes 2012 Post Positions: Breaking Down Jockeys in Horrible Slots
I'll Have Another may be scratched and the hopes of a Triple Crown may be gone, but the Belmont Stakes have no shortage of top talent and intriguing hopefuls vying for one of horse racing's biggest events.
However, some horses are left in tough positions on the post and their jockeys will struggle to get them into a position where they can make a late-race surge similar to I'll Have Another's style.
You can never count out any horse from victory, as the sport is uniquely unpredictable. But these jockeys find themselves in horrible positions heading into the Belmont Stakes, that is now anybody's for the taking after the improbable news Friday afternoon.
Ramon Dominguez - My Adonis
The owners of My Adonis hope that history is on their side, as they won last year's Belmont Stakes thanks to a thrilling performance by Ruler on Ice. Unfortunately, they find themselves at the No. 12 post position.
Seasoned veteran Ramon Dominguez could not be in a worse position heading into Saturday's race. Not only are they in a terrible slot, but the horse was a late addition to the race and it will likely show, as My Adonis shouldn't make much of a splash.
Kent Desormeaux - Guyana Star Dweej
Here we have one of horse racing's most well-known jockeys and one of the best of all time in Kent Desormeaux. His resume speaks for itself: three-time Kentucky Derby champion, two-time winner at the Preakness and even won the Belmont Stakes in just 2009.
However, he finds himself in an odd position with Guyana Star Dweej at the No. 8 post. They'll have trouble getting stuck with the pack. He also holds just 30-1 odds of crossing the finish line first. And that's after I'll Have Another was scratched, so it used to be much worse.
Besides, I think you can find a horse with a more appeasing name.
Alex Solis - Ravelo's Boy
Ravelo's Boy is stuck in the middle of the pack as well at the No. 6 position and shouldn't have any chance of getting out in front in this one.
Alex Solis is among the best jockeys around and has won thousands of races, but he hasn't had the best success in American Classics. His only win at any of the three Triple Crown events was the Preakness Stakes way back in 1986. Ancient news!
Once Ravelo's Boy struggles to get out of the gates, Solis will already start thinking about his next race.
