Manny Pacquiao: Timothy Bradley Fight Will Display Pac-Man's Passion for Boxing
After Manny Pacquiao's narrow victory over Juan Manuel Marquez in November, people began questioning his desire.
Pacquiao, of course, is more than a boxer. He's been an ambassador for the Philippines as a congressman, and he's become respected worldwide for his genuine nature.
That is why it's not unfathomable that Pacquiao would start retreating from boxing at 33 years old, anxious to delve into other endeavors. While boxing has brought him glory, you can tell he values the outside world, as well.
Timothy Bradley, his challenger on Saturday, recently told BET.com, via GMA News:
"I don't think he's as hungry as I am. He's had his claim to fame. I think now, at this time in his life, he's ready to move on.
"
I think that he has a lot of money, he has a lot of fame. I think his mind is completely somewhere else. He doesn't have the love that he had for boxing anymore.
Bradley's stance makes sense, but he misses one thing. Yes, Pacquiao may be looking ahead, he may not be as interested in boxing anymore, but that doesn't change the fact that boxing has been his life. Pacquiao may want to move on soon, but there's no way he's going to take this fight lightly, especially when he knows that a loss would damage his sterling record.
There's also the fact that the Marquez bout was a wake-up call for Pacquiao. He was caught off guard, and he could have very easily lost that fight. Do you honestly think Pacquiao is going to come into this fight unprepared after that?
Pacquiao may retire soon. Heck, he may even retire after this fight. But he's not retired yet, and that means he has business to attend to. You don't have to be interested in boxing anymore to be passionate about winning a fight.
