Stanley Cup 2012: Road Victory Would Be Fitting End to Kings' Remarkable Season

After the Los Angeles Kings have dominated on the road at a historic level in the 2012 NHL playoffs, it would only be fitting if they were to win the franchise's first Stanley Cup in Game 5 at the Prudential Center against the New Jersey Devils and set another record for road success.

Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo Sports reminds us that the Kings can set a road record with a Game 5 win.

The Kings weren't able to tie the 1988 Edmonton Oilers in Game 4 with a victory and a final playoff record of 16-2, but since they haven't been able to close series this season at the Staples Center, the Devils victory on Wednesday wasn't very surprising.

For some reason, the Kings look more comfortable on the road than they do at home. To be fair, the pressure of winning the Stanley Cup in front of your home fans is immense, and to their credit, the Kings almost finished the job in Game 4.

However, the Kings will close out the Devils in Game 5 because they play so relaxed on the road. Los Angeles is 2-0 in Game 5s during these playoffs.

There's no reason to believe that the Kings won't win Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final. They don't let teams build any hope of a comeback, and that is a really important part of their success in the playoffs.

When you don't let a team believe that a comeback is truly possible and very doable, your chances of closing out a series are very high. The Kings do a tremendous job of not losing their competitive fire in a position where a lot of teams crumble.

As star goaltender Jonathan Quick told the AP (h/t My San Antonio), the Kings put their losses behind them.

"Whether you win or lose, we don't have time to get down or too excited. We just have to focus on the next one," goalie Jonathan Quick said. "We've played well on the road, but at the same time, we try to play the same way whether you're on the road or at home. We're just focused on the next one, and that's all it is. This one is in the past."

Expect the Kings to put their Game 4 loss in the rear-view mirror and dominate Game 5 on the road like they have done multiple times in the playoffs already.

The Kings will be crowned as Stanley Cup champions on the road Saturday night in a fitting end to their amazing season.
