WWE: Assessing the Prestige of the Tag Team Championships
For quite sometime now, the WWE's tag team division has been on a downslide. There has been a shortage of tag teams to compete with one another. Most teams nowadays are formed from two singles wrestlers with nothing to do. It's hard to remember the last time there was a compelling story between tag teams.
Because of this, the WWE Tag Team Championships have lost a significant amount of prestige.
When the WWE diverted attention from the tag team division, the WWE and World Tag Team Championships were unified and defended on both Raw and Smackdown. The amount of competition in the division steadily declined and so did the prestige of the unified titles.

The lack of competition within the division certainly attributes to the title's lack of credibility. In addition to that, the WWE's lack of dedication to the title and division has also harmed its prestige.
For years now, the majority of tag team feuds have been nothing more than two teams being thrown into a series of matches.
Without a story behind the feud, it is hard to generate interest in the match. Without interest, there is no hope of rebuilding the credibility of the division and championships.
With the division and the value of the championships at an all time low, things could be looking up. After all, things can't get much worse.
There is some potential.
The teams of Titus O'Neil-Darren Young and Curt Hawkins-Tyler Reks are finally getting television time. Family teams like The Usos and Primo and Epico are becoming mainstays in the tag team division. However, the latter needs to improve beyond the weak heel team they have been portrayed as.
Also, R-Truth and Kofi Kingston have brought some name value to the division. In the past few months, Kingston has shown how valuable he can be to the division.
Personally, I'm looking forward to Justin Gabriel's return to action.
Before suffering an injury, Gabriel and Tyson Kidd were on the verge of forming a team. While I don't think they can single handedly save the tag team division, they could, with time, become an integral part in rebuilding the division.
The WWE Tag Team Championships are among the WWE's least valuable titles.
They never seem to take tag teams serious for any length of time. With some additional competition between teams and some dedication to the titles and division, it's possible to rebuild.
As it stands now, the WWE Tag Team Championships are among the least prestigious titles in the WWE. It will take some time, but it is certainly possible to change that.
