Ohio State Football Recruiting: Buckeyes Offer Class of 2014 DB
Dallas (TX) defensive back Nick Watkins of Bishop Dunne High School is a high-caliber prospect for the class of 2014.
Urban Meyer realized this at an early stage and offered him a full scholarship in late May, as reported by Rivals.
Even at an early age, the 6'1", 190-pound corner has impressed college scouts around the country with his ability to shut down receivers from anywhere on the field.
He excels in both man and zone coverage, and has shown that he can bottle up his opponent from the line of scrimmage.
Still recovering from a hip flexor injury, Watkins is in no hurry to take any official visits this summer.
Nor will he even consider making a verbal commitment until his senior year.
"I am in no rush to decide on a school, I want to take everything in, and explore all my options," Watkins said, according to Silver Bullet Recruiting.
Watkins was "very excited" when he was informed by his high school coach that Urban Meyer wanted him to join the Buckeyes. He considers Ohio State a "winning school" with "great tradition."
As a sophomore, Watkins compiled 49 tackles and five interceptions, while contributing as a return specialist. He expects to improve those numbers as a junior and potential 5-star recruit.
The highly-touted DB currently holds offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, SMU, Texas A&M and Tulsa.
Although they haven't offered yet, we can expect the Texas Longhorns to make a major impact on Watkins' future decision.
