Softball World Series 2012: Drama of Elimination Game Will Revitalize Sport
While there aren’t seven games in the Softball World Series, players get three games to decide who walks away victorious. After two games, both the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Oklahoma Sooners have won.
The drama of Game 3 in a three-game series will revitalize the sport.
Now that the world knows that the National Title will be settled by just one game, it’s time for all sports fans to put their pride away and tune into a sport that is much more fun to watch than its public perception lets on.
Fans that love intense competition will not be able to take their eyes off the screen, as these two national softball powerhouses put on a show for those that may be on the fence about the sport.
Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso told the Alabama Press-Register about the team’s late surge in Game 2 and how that momentum will carry them into Game 3:
"One of the greatest things in this tournament was what we did in the seventh inning. The message we sent and confidence we brought made me proud of my team. We're going to make adjustments and work our rear ends off for a national championship.
"
What the Sooners did was lose the game, but managed to score five late runs to make Game 2 more interesting. While the team hopes that momentum caries into Game 3, there is little doubt that this will be an absolute war for the championship.
Alabama won’t go out without a fight, but they showed some glaring weaknesses in the late innings of the second game. If they don’t adjust to make up for those now-visible deficiencies, they will not win the softball World Series.
With all the momentum Oklahoma built in the latter half of Game 2, they have the pitching and the timely bats to win it all. If they can get Alabama off the board early, the Sooners will be winning the heart of the world with a primetime championship win.
Softball is back, boys.
