Anderson Silva Never To Fight at 205 Again

Jessy MorrisFeb 7, 2009

Since first arriving in the UFC, Anderson Silva has been the most dominant fighter in MMA. He captured the UFC Middleweight championship in his second fight and hasn't let go of it since. While in the UFC, Silva has fought some very good fighters like Rich Franklin, Nate Marquardt, Dan Henderson and Patrick Cote.

It's also in the UFC that Anderson Silva established himself as the best pound for pound fighter in the world today. After his dominant victory over former PRIDE champion Dan Henderson at UFC 82, Silva began the thought to go up in weight and test his skills in the UFC's Light-Heavyweight division.

Silva had his first chance at the 205 division at UFC Fight Night: Silva vs Irvin. Anderson Silva showed why he's the best by taking out heavy hitter James Irvin in about a minute. After the dominating victory, fans were wondering when Silva was going to take the trip back up and who he was going to fight.

"The Spider" has yet to return the the Light-Heavyweight division and we have to wonder if he will ever fight there again. Although Silva stated he would fight in both the Middleweight and Light-Heavyweight divisions to capture both titles before he retires, right now would be a bad time to do so.

Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida has dominated the Light-Heavyweight scene and has become a top contender for the Light-Heavyweight title. Machida and Silva are really good friends and will never fight each other. With that said, now that Machida is after the gold at 205, it makes no sense for Anderson Silva to fight there.

Silva won't interrupt the rise to dominance of his good friend, so the chances of seeing Anderson Silva fight at 205 again are slim. My guess is that he may have a superfight against Chuck Liddell someday, but that's the only travel Silva may do at 205. The question is, who will Silva defend the title against at Middleweight?

If Silva does retire after his contract expires, he now has five fights left. One of those fights will take place in Montreal at UFC 97 against Thales Leites. That leaves us with four fights remaining. Here's the fights I would love to see Anderson in before he retires:

1. Anderson Silva defending the Middleweight championship against long time deserving challenger, Yushin Okami.

2. Anderson Silva in a superfight against either Chuck Liddell or Georges St-Pierre.

3. Anderson Silva defending the Middleweight championship in a UFC 73 rematch against Nate "The Great" Marquardt.

4. Anderson Silva defending the Middleweight championship against the winner of the Dan Henderson/Michael Bisping fight.

Whatever happens, I just hope "The Spider" leaves the UFC still the UFC Middleweight champion. He is the very best today and hope to see him dominate his competition for as long as he's here.
