Spain Euro 2012 Roster: Latest on Team's Starting 11 and More
Spain has the most talented squad in the 2012 European Championships.
There are world-class options at nearly every position for the defending champions, even with Carles Puyol and David Villa out with injuries.
It may be difficult at times for Vicente Del Bosque to field a lineup, simply because there are too many quality options to chose from.
Here is my projected lineup for La Roja and the latest on all the players.
Iker Casillas
1 of 12Iker Casillas is a shoe-in for the starting keeper job, as he's one of the best goalies in the world.
With Carles Puyol out, Casillas will ensure that Spain's defense is still stable all the way through the tournament.
Sergio Ramos
2 of 12Sergio Ramos will likely be tapped to fill Carles Puyol's role at center-back.
He's normally a right-back, but he's slid over to the center for Real Madrid on occasion and done well. He's talented enough to play anywhere along the back line and will do just fine in this new role.
Gerard Pique
3 of 12Spain's other center-back will be as solid as ever during the tournament.
Gerard Pique has been one of the best defenders in football for a few years now and he will continue to be dominant in Poland and Ukraine.
Alvaro Arbeloa
4 of 12Alvaro Arbeloa will be one of the new faces in Spain's back four for Euro 2012. Even though there will be changes in the defense, don't expect the team to decline.
Arbeloa is experienced and talented. He just won La Liga for the first time with Real Madrid and will want to win another trophy this summer.
Jordi Alba
5 of 12Jordi Alba will complete the starting back line for La Roja. The 23-year-old may be fairly new to the senior squad, but he already shows the same swagger as the veterans.
He said, via Stefan Coerts of Goal.com, "Obviously, there are teams like Germany and Netherlands, but we don't fear anyone. We are only thinking about ourselves."
Sergio Busquets
6 of 12Sergio Busquets will anchor the Spanish midfield. He is a sideline-to-sideline player who will maintain a defensive presence in the center of the pitch.
He is not the flashiest player, but his presence will allow the midfield maestros to do their damage.
Xabi Alonso
7 of 12When a team wins the center of the field, it usually wins the game. Spain's center mids are all top-class, and this is why they have been so successful lately.
Xabi Alonso is among the best distributors in the world. Many would argue that his passing and vision are second only to one player. That player happens to be his teammate for Euro 2012.
Xavi Hernandez
8 of 12Xavi Hernandez is the best midfielder in the world. His vision, touch and control are all second to none.
At 32, this may be his last major tournament with La Roja. He won't disappoint.
David Silva
9 of 12After David Silva's brilliant season for Manchester City, Vicente Del Bosque cannot keep him out of the starting 11.
His craftiness and goal-scoring prowess will be put to very good use on the wing. He couldn't crack the starting lineup in the 2010 World Cup, but he will be a big part of Spain's success this time around.
Andres Iniesta
10 of 12Andres Iniesta is another one of the best midfielders on the planet. He secured his place as a legend of Spanish football with his game-winning goal in the World Cup final. He will hope to perform similar heroics at some point during Euro 2012.
He creates pressure on the wing as well as any player in the tournament. If Spain wins the European Championships again, Iniesta will be a big reason why they do.
Fernando Llorente
11 of 12Which Fernando will Vicente Del Bosque go with up top? If he is basing the decision on the form for their respective clubs, then he must go with Fernando Llorente.
The Atletico Bilbao striker had 17 league goals this season, compared to just six for Fernando Torres. Llorente is big, powerful and deadly in the box; he will be the starting striker for La Roja.
Key Substitutes
12 of 12Goalkeeper: Victor Valdes
The Barcelona keeper is the best backup goalkeeper in the tournament. Losing Casillas would certainly be a blow, but Valdes is extremely capable.
Defense: Raul Albiol
The Real Madrid man will be available to fill any holes that open up in the defense due to injury, fatigue or poor form.
Midfield: Cesc Fabregas
Spain is absolutely loaded in the midfield with other fantastic players like Juan Mata and Jesus Navas, but Fabregas is one of the world's best passers. Unfortunately for him, so are Xabi Alonso and Xavi Hernandez.
The fact that Fabregas is a substitute is a testament to how talented Spain's roster truly is. He will see a fair amount of playing time in the tournament, and he will show world-class touch and skill.
Forward: Fernando Torres
Torres was once considered one of football's best strikers, but he has not been the same player since the 2010 World Cup.
His form has been better as of late, and this would be the ideal stage to emerge as the player he once was. His performance off the bench could be a huge boost that puts this team over the top.
