Liverpool Transfer News: Possible Sigurdsson Transfer Mirrors Konchesky Failure
Once again, there is a new manager at Anfield, and once again he wants to bring in a player that he had worked with at a past club.
New Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is interested in bringing Gylfi Sigurdsson in from Hoffenheim in Germany.
Sigurdsson was on loan with Rodgers' former club, Swansea City, for the second half of the Premier League season and is one of the only players Rodgers can bring with him from a former club.

As part of the compensation deal agreed between the two clubs, Rodgers can not sign any players from the Welsh club for 12 months. But since Sigurdsson is still under contract with Hoffenheim, he can be signed by Rodgers at Liverpool.
This scenario is eerily familiar to when Roy Hodgson decided to bring in left back Paul Konchesky with him from Fulham in 2010.
Hodgson only lasted six months at Anfield, and so did Konchesky, who was sent on loan to Nottingham Forest after the firing of his former boss and then left the club for good for Leicester City last summer.
dThe comparisons between Sigurdsson and Konchesky are scary as well.
Konchesky did not have any experience at a big club like Liverpool, as he played with mid-table clubs for all of his career.
The Englishman could not perform up to his expectations at Anfield and was immediately dispatched from the club on loan once Kenny Dalglish took over.
Sigurdsson has only played professionally with Reading in the English Championship and in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim, who finished 11th this season, before joining Swansea on loan.
Instead of going after players who have proven themselves with the top clubs in Europe, Rodgers is going after someone he is familiar with in Sigurdsson, just like Hodgson did with Konchesky.
Although Sigurdsson does have a ton of potential and proved that he is a good player on a mid-table club, there has been a precedent set by the Konchesky transfer that Liverpool fans must be wary of.
