Pacquiao vs. Bradley: Breaking Down Undercard Bouts for Epic Main Event
While the majority of boxing fans will be tuning into the Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley pay-per-view June 9 to see the main event, there is an undercard full of great talent.
Hardcore boxing fans will find great enjoyment throughout this undercard, as titles are on the line and undefeated streaks could be broken. While many are unfamiliar with the names, there are definite stars in the making from this group.
Here is the complete undercard breakdown. Enjoy!
Jorge Arce vs. Jesus Rojas, 10 rounds, junior featherweights
While there may not be the huge names throughout the card, a veteran guy like Jorge Arce and his KO power will be one most fans will recognize.
As much as Jesus Rojas is the younger and better fighter right now, Arce is a wild animal in the ring and could knock anyone out at any time. This slugfest will be a great precursor for the main event.
Mike Jones vs. Randall Bailey, 12 rounds, for vacant IBF welterweight title
Former IBF welterweight champion Randall Bailey is one of the best fighters around today, but he will be no match for Philadelphia native Mike Jones on Saturday.
Jones is a hard-throwing young man with an undefeated streak and an ego. Neither man wants to lose, so this should be another brawl likely to end in a knockout.
Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Teon Kennedy, 12 rounds, for Rigondeaux's WBA junior featherweight title
While Guillermo Rigondeaux may be the defending champion, this is where I’m predicting the biggest upset of the night, as Teon Kennedy puts him to sleep early in the fight.
Kennedy is a small fighter, but the force derived from his legs and midsection is unparalleled in his weight class. With powerful strikes, Kennedy will walk away as the new WBA junior featherweight champion.
Mikael Zewski vs. Ryan Grimaldo, six rounds, welterweights
While neither of these young boxers are well known, don’t be fooled; this will be a great fight. Mikael Zewski is undefeated at 14-0 and Ryan Grimaldo is 8-1.
With neither man trying to let the judges decide their fate, this fight has the potential to end in a knockout. We can only hope.
Andrew Ruiz vs. Tyler Larson, four rounds, welterweights
This fight is about up-and-comer Andrew Ruiz and one of his first tests against a veteran like Tyler Lawson. If Ruiz attacks and keeps Lawson on his heels, this will be an easy decision win for the future star.
Jesse Hart vs. Manuel Eastman, four rounds, super middleweights
Jesse Hart has an amazing story about narrowly missing qualifying for the Olympics and giving up the sport, only to come right back and begin his pro career in dominant fashion. Manuel Eastman doesn’t stand a chance.
Ernie Sanchez vs. Wilton Hilario, eight rounds, junior lightweights
Both of these men are mediocre fighters, but the hope is in eight rounds they can put on a show. With the crowd wanting action early, allowing these two scrappers eight rounds to settle it will almost guarantee a stoppage of some sort.
