Belmont Stakes 2012 Odds: Updated Odds for Every Horse
As the 2012 Belmont Stakes draws nearer, the story on every fan's mind is whether or not I'll Have Another can successfully complete the Triple Crown and race his way into the annals of horse racing history.
While he remains the heavy favorite, a few horses have the ability to pull off an upset, as the latest odds show.
Here are the latest odds for every horse racing in this year's Belmont stakes, according to Las Vegas Sports Betting.
Alpha—Suspended
1 of 14Alpha wasn't a complete long shot, going at 15-1 odds, but after developing a temperature, Alpha will not be competing in the Belmont Stakes.
Atigun—35-1
2 of 14Atigun has very established handlers that could help him pull off an upset at the Belmont Stakes.
Ed Anthony, owner of long shot 1992 Kentucky Derby winner Temperance Hill, is working with trainer Ken McPeek, trainer of 2002 Belmont winner Sarava, to help Atigun overcome his lack of experience in the racing circuit.
Of all the long shots in this race, Atigun might have the best chance to make a serious run at the win.
Dullahan—15-4
3 of 14If I'll Have Another can't pull off his run at the Triple Crown, Dullahan is the most likely candidate to take the Belmont.
Dullahan has the second best odds of winning the Belmont. With solid performances throughout training, Dullahan is a horse to watch come race time.
Five Sixteen—50-1
4 of 14Five Sixteen is among the least likely contenders to win the Belmont Stakes. With no major victories on record, Five Sixteen doesn't look like a serious contender to win it all.
Guyana Star Dweej—60-1
5 of 14The only real story surrounding Guyana Star Dweej is that Hall of Fame jockey Kent Desormeaux will be at the helm during the Belmont Stakes.
That won't be enough, though, for Guyana Star Dweej to pull off the upset.
I'll Have Another—7-5
6 of 14The marquee attraction at the Belmont Stakes, I'll Have Another will be racing for the glory of being a Triple Crown winner.
I'll Have Another will have tremendous resources and training throughout this process, so his status as the favorite is well deserved.
Optimizer—30-1
7 of 14Like with Guyana Star Dweej, the biggest story surrounding Optimizer isn't the horse itself, but rather the people involved with it.
Optimizer's trainer, Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, was kicked in the head Tuesday, according to the Kansas City Star's Alicia Wincze Hughes.
Lukas will heal, likely only needing stitches, but regardless, Optimizer will not likely be a major player in the Belmont Stakes.
Paynter—8-1
8 of 14Paynter is another young horse with minimal experience but ample talent.
Paynter has raced against I'll Have Another in the past, finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby.
With more experience and a solid training regimen, Paynter could be in good position to make some noise at the Belmont Stakes.
Rousing Sermon—Suspended
9 of 14Rousing Sermon will not be racing in the Belmont Stakes, with his trainers concerned about the toll the cross-country trip would take on the young horse.
This will have minimal effect on the race, as Rousing Sermon was going off at 20-1 odds.
Stealcase—Suspended
10 of 14Stealcase was going at 25-1 odds before withdrawing from the Belmont Stakes to train for future events.
This will have minimal effect on the race, as Stealcase was probably not a serious contender to take the race.
Street Life—15-1
11 of 14Street Life is an under-the-radar competitor who could make some noise at the Belmont Stakes.
Winner of two of its five starts, Street Life has been solid in training and could surprise during the race.
Union Rags—4-1
12 of 14Union Rags is another popular choice to stop I'll Have Another's bid for the Triple Crown.
After a tough seventh-place finish at the Kentucky Derby despite being the second-favorite, Union Rags is looking forward to another shot at I'll Have Another and another shot at victory.
Union Rags has the ability to get it done but will need a clean race to win it all.
Unstoppable U—28-1
13 of 14Unstoppable U is going to have a difficult time making an impression at the Belmont Stakes.
The young roan colt has a solid record and pedigree but does not have the experience at the top level of racing to make a major impact.
Ravelo's Boy—50-1
14 of 14Ravelo's Boy is the consummate long shot, having never won a stakes race and with 50-1 odds.
Ravelo's Boy is known to have solid stamina, though, so he could surprise with a good performance.
