Belmont Stakes Odds: 3 Dark Horses Who Will Make Some Noise
At the Belmont Stakes, all eyes are going to be on I'll Have Another. After a win at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, I'll Have Another has a chance to win a Triple Crown.
Only 11 horses have won the Triple Crown, and there has not been a winner since 1978.
There is always excitement when a horse goes into Belmont after winning the first two legs and is looking to complete the Triple Crown. However, when that happens there is also less focus on or excitement about the other horses in the race.
Here is a look at three of those dark horses that will make some noise at Belmont.
Paynter
Paynter has a chance to make some noise, especially because he was trained by Bob Baffert. Baffert's horses have won three Kentucky Derbies, five Preakness Stakes and one Belmont Stakes.
Paynter's training has made his exercise rider pleased, and he could make a strong impact at the Belmont Stakes.
Optimizer
Optimizer is one of the few horses that raced in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. He took 11th in the Kentucky Derby and 6th at the Preakness Stakes.
Optimizer is in the same bloodline as A.P. Indy, who is a distance horse. That gives Optimizer an advantage at the Belmont Stakes, which is a longer track.
Dullahan
Dullahan is not as much of a dark horse as the other two horses mentioned, and his closing speed is something to look out for.
He would have won several races this year, had the tracks been as long as Belmont's. Dullahan could show the importance of closing speed at Belmont.
