Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
4. Seattle Seahawks: Michael Crabtree; Wide Receiver, Texas Tech
5. Cleveland Browns: Malcolm Jenkins; Cornerback, Ohio State
6. Cincinnati Bengals: B.J. Raji; Defensive Tackle, Boston College
With the seventh pick in the 2009 B/R NFL Mock Draft, the Oakland Raiders select Jeremy Maclin; Wide Receiver, Missouri. The Jacksonville Jaguars are now on the clock.
The Raiders have selected Maclin, which gives them a legitimate playmaker at the wide receiver position, and a top target for young quarterback JaMarcus Russell to throw to.
Many Raiders fans are high on wide receivers Jonnie Lee Higgins and Chaz Schilens, but in the end it was Maclin's speed that enticed Al Davis to pull the trigger on him with the seventh overall pick.
Now all eyes are on the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are considered by many to be the biggest disappointment of the 2008 season.
After a strong finish to the 2007 campaign that contained a playoff victory against the now Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jaguars went 5-11 and could never get anything going.
Here are Jacksonville's top needs heading into day one of the draft, in no specific order.
1. Offensive Tackle
2. Wide Receiver
3. Safety
4. Middle Linebacker
5. Developmental Quarterback
6. Interior Offensive/Defensive Lineman
You make the call Jaguars fans. Vote in the poll for who you think should be the eighth overall pick in this year's draft, and for the future of the team!
Matthew Stafford; Quarterback, Georgia
This pick may not seem logical to a lot of Jaguars fans, but if David Garrard can not return to 2007 form, the team may need to look to the future at the quarterback position. Stafford has a rocket arm and has no business still being on the board at this point.
Rey Maualuga; Middle Linebacker, USC
The Jaguars are going to be losing Mike Peterson to free agency this offseason, and a replacement at middle linebacker is needed. The linebacker position has been a strength of Jacksonville lately, and Maualuga could help keep that in tact.
He has a great ability to find the ball carrier, and since Jack Del Rio coached him at the Senior Bowl, this pick would make sense.
Jason Smith; Offensive Tackle, Baylor
Smith is another player that has no business falling this far. I for one thought he would land in Oakland at the latest, but here he is, ripe for the picking.
His athleticism and strength will be very attractive to Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio, and with the barrage of injuries this team had on the line in 2008, Smith seems like a smart choice.
Michael Oher; Offensive Tackle, Mississippi
I think this pick is too high for Oher, but he very well could go in this spot, mainly because of the same reason as Rey Maualuga: Oher was coached by Jacksonville's staff at the Senior Bowl.
He was a top prospect in last year's draft, and figures to be a dominant left tackle at the next level. hy his stock has dropped so far is beyond me.
James Laurinaitis; Middle Linebacker, Ohio State
This is far too high for Laurinaitis in my opinion, but with the top two receivers off the board and no others worthy of this high of a pick, he warrants consideration. He was one of the best linebackers in the country in his time with the Ohio State Buckeyes, and is a tackling machine.
There you have it Jaguars fans! Vote in the poll for who you think should be the future of your franchise!
