WWE News: Paul Heyman Goes on Twitter Tirade About the Business
Thursday night, Paul Heyman was inspired by the following tweet:
"
"@HeymanHustle Remember this from clash of champions sting vs rude twitter.com/superman090182…
— craig (@superman090182) June 1, 2012""
The picture was of Heyman during Clash of the Champions. During that time, Heyman was playing the role of Paul E. Dangerously, manager of Rick Rude and The Dangerous Alliance. After Heyman saw this tweet, he started talking about his history and started putting over CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. He also went on to discuss how difficult it is to make it in the wrestling business and how you really need to be driven to get to the top.

"So I was @JRsBBQ color commentator at 23 years old. NO ONE IS GIVEN THAT OPPORTUNITY IN TODAY'S ENVIRONMENT!

"AMBITION. ASSERTIVENESS ... and the ABILITY TO BACK IT UP is what it takes to create the next generation of main eventers.

Overall, the entire rant was not meant to diss today's talent but rather inspire them to reach for the top. Many fans, myself included, have felt that a lot of today's stars are missing that right gimmick or "it" factor to put them over the top.
Often times, I reminisce on wrestlers from the past that made the mid-card a spot to be, rather than looking at it as an insult. When I think of guys like Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Rick Rude, Honk Tonk Man, and Brutus Beefcake, I think about how they owned the mid-card scene. All of them were involved in some form of story-line or feud, and they made sure that they stood apart form the main-eventers.
Considering they all wrestled during Hulkamania and The Ultimate Warrior Era, they still were able to put on a great match that told a story. Right now, there really isn't a mid-carder out there that knows how to tell a story in the ring. Oftentimes, they wrestle and the crowd is only half paying attention. Don't get me wrong—I do realize how the WWE places them is a part of it, but these guys could do something different to stand out.
Ultimately, in order to survive, the business must change as too many talented wrestlers are not being placed in a spot to succeed.
