When You Go to Paris, You Can Get Tired: Mickelson Withdraws from Memorial
Be careful if you visit Paris.
When you visit Paris, you can get jet-lagged.
When you are jet-lagged, you can get tired.
When you get tired from jet lag and you played in a pro-am or two, you find it’s hard to walk.
When it’s hard to walk, it’s hard to play 18 holes of golf if you are a professional golfer.
When it’s hard to walk 18 holes of golf, it’s even harder to play 18 holes of golf.
When it’s hard to play 18 holes of golf, having 2000 people take cell phone photos while you are in your backswing can be annoying.
When you are annoyed by 2000 people taking cell phone photos and you are jet lagged, you can easily shoot a 79.
When you shoot a 79 because of cell phone photos, you get frustrated.
When you get frustrated, you do things you wouldn’t ordinarily do, like withdraw from tournaments.
When you withdraw from tournaments and you are a PGA Tour star, other guys like Bubba Watson jump to your defense.
When other guys come to your defense, they sometimes tell the truth in public.
“Phil's a great player and a great champion, and it just took him out of his game. "It's sad. It's sad that cellphones can make or break a championship,” Watson said to the Associated Press (h/t golf.com) after his round. "Ever since they made that rule that cell phones are allowed, it's just not fun playing.”
When PGA Tour players tell the truth in public, the PGA Tour commissioner has to pay attention, particularly when there are social media implications.
When there are social media implications, even the PGA Tour commissioner gets tired.
Be careful if you visit Paris. Don’t get jet-lagged. Take the Queen Mary.
