WWE Youth Movement: Possible Feuds for Brodus Clay
Since day one, I have been big on Brodus Clay. His gimmick is unique and great comic relief for the fans. I love his overall character, despite the talk of his in-ring skills being subpar.
When vignettes began airing for Clay, he was promoted as a monster heel. However, we got something much different, but in a way, better. Monster heels rarely last more than a few months (i.e. Vlad Koslov and Mike Knox) and this gimmick is one then, that could stand out. While it isn't serious enough for the main event, he will be a great guy for the midcard titles.
However, over the past few weeks, WWE has mishandled Brodus. They continuously put him in squash matches and the fans are slowly turning on him. He needs a real feud and he needs it now.
Take a look at the most likely choices as the opposition for Brodus Clay.
Big Show
1 of 6After what happened on Raw this past Monday, this one seems likely to happen eventually. With Big Show in the middle of a much bigger feud against John Cena, you probably won't see Clay go after him for quite some time. However, as Show gets older, he may be placed in the role of putting over a youngster like Clay.
While the big beatdown on Raw was pretty solid, I don't want to see these two have a match together. Two men of their stature rarely pull off a classic and I don't see history being made with Clay and Big Show in the ring.
Despite my opinion on it, both Big Show and Clay are the type of wrestlers that Vince loves to shove down our throats. No matter how much we beg and plead, a feud between these two could become inevitable.
John Laurinaitis
2 of 6When Brodus Clay vignettes were showing, we all expected him to be a monster heel. In the time leading up to his debut, Johnny Laurinaitis continuously spoke of him and it looked like Clay could possibly be in a role similar to the one Big show has now. However, that did not happen, as we were all greeted by the Funkasaurus.
With this in mind, after Clay's interaction with John's assistant, Big Show, Brodus could easily shift his attention over to the general manager of both SmackDown and Raw.
While I don't expect Johnny to get back in the ring again, he could easily find a guy like David Otunga to do his dirty work. I would actually be in favor of this if WWE finds the right guy to oppose Clay from Laurinaitis' side.
Jack Swagger
3 of 6With a probable split beginning to start between Swagger and his partner, Dolph Ziggler, the All-American American may find himself without anything to do. While I was never a fan of Swagger as a main event star, he has too much talent to be forgotten.
With Clay also being in no-man's land right now, these two could go at it for a few pay-per-views. With the way things have been going, I don't see Swagger winning matches against Clay. But at the very least we can see what Brodus looks like in a real, competitive match.
Swagger's best asset is his in-ring ability and with many questioning Clay's wrestling, Jack could definitely make Brodus look good. I wouldn't mind these two feuding for a bit, as Swagger could possibly help Brodus get over even more than he already has.
Dolph Ziggler
4 of 6This is one feud I'm actually not in favor of.
When Swagger and Dolph split up, I'm hoping WWE realizes Ziggler's talent and begins his journey to the top. However, floating around in the lower midcard won't do anything but hurt Ziggler even more.
Much like Swagger, Dolph's overall talent in the ring could help Clay look better. As a big man, Brodus isn't very mobile and may have trouble with most stars. However, Ziggler's ability seems to mesh with anyone and I don't see this situation being any different.
While Dolph isn't the best on the mic, he certainly has improved to a level where he is good enough when paired with someone like CM Punk. While a feud with Clay and Ziggler is probable, I want more from Dolph. While Clay has been dominant and is one of the lone youngsters to get over, he still isn't on Dolph's level and may never be. Ziggler's talent is truly amazing and his push needs to come sooner than later.
Alberto Del Rio
5 of 6I have said it before and I'll say it again: Alberto Del Rio is not a main eventer. He has all the tools (good in the ring, solid on the mic, good gimmick), but for some odd reason he just doesn't do it for me. With that said, a feud with Brodus Clay could be a bit far-fetched. Clay isn't even in the upper half of the midcard, while Alberto has a title shot at No Way Out!
With Clay a former ally of Del Rio, these two certainly have to background to create a feud. After being drafted to Raw (what happened to that?), Alberto basically forgot about Clay and the Funkasaurus could use that as a reason to battle his former friend.
This feud isn't probable, but I think it would be good for Clay to feud with a top guy such as Del Rio. Alberto is another guy who can make Clay look better in the ring, which is basically the only thing holding Brodus back.
While I would love this feud to happen, I won't be expecting it any time soon.
Damien Sandow
6 of 6Out of all possibilities, this one is definitely my favorite.
Clay fits the bill as Sandow's version of an "ignoramus," so this feud would be easy to start up. Not to mention, both men are still searching for their first feuds, so why not put them together?
While both men have succeeded in certain aspects, neither has had the opportunity to shine yet. This feud could give both men their first moment.
I didn't follow Sandow much while he was in FCW, but he has looked pretty impressive thus far. I wouldn't mind him stepping in the ring with a big guy like Clay to see if he could still work well. These two could work well on the mic and in my opinion and could probably pull off a decent match.
I'm a huge fan of Damien and want to see more of what Brodus brings to the table. If WWE decides to put these two in a feud, it would be a great way for both men to jump start their careers.
