Chelsea Transfer Rumors: Blues Must Target Hulk to Continue Incredible Overhaul

Chelsea F.C. has reportedly inked Lille playmaker Eden Hazard to a five-year deal, after paying his former club a £32m transfer fee. They should not stop their attempts to add top-tier talent with the Belgian midfielder’s signing.

With Didier Drogba out of the picture at Stamford Bridge, the Blues should be gunning for Brazilian national and Porto right winger/striker, Hulk. That is exactly what David Hytner of The Guardian is hearing the squad is attempting to do. 

Hulk, a 25-year-old footballer born as Givanildo Vieira de Souza, is aptly nicknamed due to his strong, stocky build. However, the 5’11” forward also possesses great pace and a powerful, accurate shooting touch.

He would make a perfect replacement for Drogba, who displayed many of the same attributes. Hulk could also play on the right side of Fernando Torres, who is widely expected to be an integral part of the Chelsea roster going forward.

The one problem for Blues owner Roman Abramovich is that the Porto player has a ridiculous €100 million buyout on his contract. Fortunately, Hytner believes that a reasonable offer of around £30M would likely be attractive enough to lure Hulk away from FCP.

Hulk should definitely help make up for the loss of some scoring by the Chelsea side that is fresh off a Champions League win. In 96 appearances with Porto, the forward notched 52 goals and dished 42 assists.

He’s also being integrated into the ultra-competitive Brazilian national team and scored his first two goals in a 3-1 victory over Denmark on May 26 of this year. He’s earned 10 caps with the country thus far.

If Chelsea wants to get serious about competing in the EPL and wants to have a serious shot of repeating in the Champions League, they’ll need to keep adding solid young players like Hulk on top of their Hazard signing.
