Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley: How Desert Storm Will Shock Critics
Timothy Bradley is going to shock the boxing world in his June 9 WBO welterweight title bout with Manny Pacquiao.
Bradley does not have the same reputation Pacquiao does, but he is dangerous nonetheless. Bradley's undefeated record and decorated light welterweight career will be put to the test against Pacquiao's staggering power.
To pull the upset, Bradley is going to need a few things to go his way.
Let's take a look at how Bradley can shock the MGM Grand crowd on June 9.
Foot Position
Bradley must keep outside foot position if he wants to defeat Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight title.
Keeping his feet positioned to the outside will force Pacquiao to come to him, and make his defense more effective by already being in position.
Bradley must make Pacquiao chase him. This will leave Pacquiao vulnerable and allow Bradley to throw quick counterattacks.
Bradley only has 12 career knockouts. Without legitimate power, Bradley will need to rely on his sound decision making and smarts to outwit Pacquiao, and avoid a knockout.
If Bradley can keep his feet to the outside, avoid slugging it out with Pacquiao and draw Pacquiao into a few quality counter punches, he will have a good chance of grabbing the victory.
Do Not Be Shy
Bradley will not keep Pacquiao on the outside for 12 rounds regardless of where his feet are positioned.
When Pacquiao does get close, Bradley must not be cute with his plan of action. Bradley must tie up Pacquiao and neutralize any harsh body punches on the inside.
Pacquiao loves to lead with a straight left hand and counter with his left hook from the inside. Bradley is bound to get tagged with a few quality straight lefts. He must be aware of what is coming next, or he will be lying on the mat.
Bradley must clinch Pacquaio, making Pacquiao earn every punch he throws. This forces Pacquiao to expend extra energy and lose concentration for a split second.
Chances are Bradley will not win this bout with a highlight-worthy knockout or quick flurry of punches. He will have to muck this contest up and force Pacquiao to struggle for every inch he hopes to gain.
Early Momentum
Pacquiao's name has been strewn through the media lately.
Questionable statements, Bob Arum questioning his character and a possible future matchup with pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather are all weighing on Pacquiao.
Bradley must use these things to his advantage. Pacquiao will enter the ring with something to prove, and Bradley must answer the call in the first few rounds.
Bradley is better off landing a few flurries early in the fight, backing Pacquiao off and keeping him a distance as the crowd cheers his early activity. Fighting with a chip on his shoulder is likely to have Pacquiao charging at him with relentless ferocity.
Everything needs to swing in Bradley's favor for him to win this fight.
Pacquiao has the talent and power to win this fight, but the crowd backing Bradley would be a big difference.
If Bradley can start strong and possibly rattle Pacquiao, this fight could be very interesting.
Pacquiao will not walk all over Bradley. If all of these things go in Bradley's favor, he could pull the ultimate upset.
