LSU Football: 5 Most Underrated Players on the Tigers Roster

Jake MartinJun 7, 2018

Because of how much talent is on LSU's roster, a few players tend to fly under the radar and can easily be termed "underrated."

Players such as Alfred Blue, who could very well be the starter next season with the kind of spring he had, become swallowed up in the pack and, dare I say, underappreciated.

Along with Blue, these are the players who don't receive the credit they should and are vastly underrated.

Alfred Blue

1 of 5

Fans generally rattle off three LSU running backs before they get to Blue.

You have Spencer Ware, Michael Ford and Kenny Hilliard, who saw relatively the most playing time last season, but the Tigers' fourth-string back is a capable starter.

Why? Well, despite being the fourth-string running back, Blue was able to rush for 539 yards and seven touchdowns. And perhaps the best part of Blue's game is his big-play ability.

Blue led the running backs with 6.9 yards per carry, and a lot of that was due in large to the big runs he would break. Granted, most of his runs came late in games after the Tigers had the victory well in hand, but it's still an impressive stat.

Blue isn't going to give you the flash that Hilliard or Ford gives fans, but if you want a running back who does nothing but grind out yards, Blue is your guy—or, should I say, "your boy."

Chris Faulk

Offensive linemen are always overlooked.

Even though they're the ones who give the quarterback time and create the holes for the running backs to run through, they never receive the credit they're due.

Because of this, Chris Faulk is greatly underrated.

Last season, Faulk was named Second Team All-Southeastern Conference, and he was voted the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week for his efforts against Tennessee.

Coming back as a junior, Faulk should be considered as one of the best offensive linemen in the conference. He is a 6'6", 325-pound left tackle who tramples anything in his way on the football field, and he's going to be one of the Tigers' best offensive players this season, if not the best.

Bennie Logan

3 of 5

Bennie Logan was overshadowed by Michael Brockers last season.

Everyone was blown away by Brockers' performance last season, which they should have been, but you have to give Logan love, as well.

Let's compare both players' stats from a year ago:

Brockers had 54 tackles, while Logan had 51. Both men had a pair of sacks, and Brockers had five more tackles for loss than Logan had.

Brockers' numbers are better, but Logan's numbers weren't far behind. This guy is not only a run-stopper, he can get into the backfield and disrupt the game.

Keep in mind that the Tigers will have Sam Montgomery and Barkevious Mingo at the end positions, and blocking LSU's front four next season will be virtually impossible. Logan will be a big reason why.

Craig Loston

4 of 5

People seem to forget just how talented Craig Loston really is.

When Loston arrived on campus in 2009, he was considered to be the best safety in the entire 2009 recruiting class. He was that heavily recruited.

And while Loston has yet to live up to the grand expectations, he's suffered from a few minor setbacks. He was injured his freshman season, and then when 2010 came along, Brandon Taylor was playing lights out, and Eric Reid played fantastic as a freshman.

But now, Taylor is gone, and it's time for Loston to live up to his true potential. Loston is a quick safety who has solid coverage skills, and he can lower the boom when needed.

I expect Loston will catch everyone off guard this season and turn in one incredible year.

Jarvis Landry

5 of 5

It's absolutely baffling that Jarvis Landry continues to fly under the radar.

Landry's not only going to prove that he's a great wide receiver in 2012, he's going to prove that he's a great football player as well.

Last season, Landry saw limited action at receiver, but he made his presence known on special teams. Any time you saw a devastating impact on the kickoff, odds are it was Landry making the hit.

But as a wide receiver, this guy is going to be another LSU great. He gave a precursor to that in the spring game when he led all receivers with 120 yards.

Landry is a fast and lanky receiver who will prove to be a great deep threat for Zach Mettenberger, and when this season is all said and done, people are going to be talking about Landry's skills.
