A T20 Performance Wins India the ODI Series in Sri Lanka

Dann KhanFeb 3, 2009

Well, what can I say when India has said it all? What greater can I do today compared to what India did? All I can do is write down my special experience and make the memories last longer.

India won the bilateral series against Sri Lanka in the enemy's battlefield. They won the ODI's the last time they came as well, But this was special. I never expected India to win in this fashion, especially with Murli-Mendis being there.

What was so special about this was the way the Indians managed victory in the third ODI. I thought like the previous two, this one would also be a close fight with maybe Sri Lanka managing a result in their favor.

But when Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag play this way, I doubt any team would have been able to beat them. These two played with calm heads and heated up bodies. They ensured that when they slogged they did not do so in an unnecessary manner. More importantly, they both carried on to get centuries and did not get stuck sweet sixties.

Yusuf Pathan also played a very good knock to ensure that the performance by Yuvi-Viru did not go waste.

Bowling was also good, though India started waywardly. Pragyan Ohja bowled beautifully with flight, bounce, and turn. I think he should have got the man of the match. The only thing that I did not get was Zaheer Khan getting wickets. It would have been the cherry on top of the cake of 360 runs. Another thing was Sachin Tendulkar getting another bad decision.

But all good things do not come together.

More importantly though, it was good to see Yuvraj Singh working hard and playing the spinners well. I look forward to more such performances by him. Virender Sehwag, of course, has developed into a fine batsman these days. His career strike rate also went above 100.

I think we also saw great captaincy in this match by Mahendra Dhoni. Calling the powerplay right was the masterstroke of the day.

Another interesting fact is that the innings contained only five sixes compared to 42 fours. This shows that slogging always does not mean sixes. It can be along the ground but effective.

In the end, all I would like to say is that India won by thrashing its opponent which is always special.

Giving a T20 performance in 50-50 is even more special.
