Serie A Transfer Rumours: Predicting the 10 Biggest Deals in Italy This Summer
As the campaigns around Europe come to an end, it is time to start talking about two things: UEFA Euro 2012 and the transfer window.
Moves have already been made via Bosman transfers and agreements are being reached between clubs, but no sales can be made until July 1.
As always, rumors are swirling around the world of football regarding big names and big moves. Many of the world's biggest names are being linked to clubs throughout Serie A, and some of Serie A's biggest names are linked to moves around and out of the league.
Which moves highlight the list? Read on to find out.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic: AC Milan to Manchester City or Real Madrid
1 of 10This is a rumor that is unlikely to amount to anything, but no one ever knows in the wonderful world of the transfer market.
Ibrahimovic had his best season production-wise, recording 35 goals and 14 assists. Despite the impressive numbers, the season marked the end to a streak of eight years of winning a top-flight domestic league title, seven of them in Serie A with Juventus, Inter and Milan, with one coming via Barcelona in La Liga.
Ibrahimovic is under contract until 2014, but it is no secret he was very upset with the results this season. Milan dropped Serie A by four points to Juventus, who also eliminated Milan from Coppa Italia in the semifinals. They were also knocked out in the quarterfinals of the Champions League by Barcelona.
With a few changes in defense and the midfield and a return to health for all the players, which was a problem this season, Milan could easily reclaim the Scudetto and even fight for the Champions League in 2012-13.
If he does leave, Real Madrid would likely give a lot of money for his services so he can be reunited with Jose Mourinho. Manchester City would likely offer the likes of Carlos Tevez or childhood Milan fan Mario Balotelli in exchange.
Liverpool Duo to Serie A
2 of 10The American owners of Liverpool, Fenway Sports Group, have said that they will cut spending in the summer in an attempt to get closer to balancing the books at the club.
While some reports claim that the club will be re-signing some of its big names, the report from Mirror Football above claims that Luis Suarez and Martin Skrtel could both be on their way to Serie A.
Different reports have Skrtel moving to either Inter Milan or Fiorentina. Meanwhile, Juventus or AC Milan is the likely destination for Suarez if he wants to test life in Italy.
Gonzalo Higuain: Real Madrid to Juventus
3 of 10Out with a 37-year-old legend, in with a 24-year-old veteran who has yet to reach his peak.
Could it be?
Juventus were the second-best attack in Serie A, six behind Milan. Bring in a player like Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain and there would be no roof on the potential of the champion's attack.
Higuain has played 220 games for Madrid, scoring 103 times since 2007. Despite one of his best seasons ever, scoring 26 goals in 54 games this year, he is still not preferred by Jose Mourinho, who would much rather have Karim Benzema heading the attack.
With that in mind, Higuain would likely prefer a move to a top club where he can thrive. According to ESPN, Higuain has been linked to Juventus, and Fabio Capello believes that the club and player are ideal for each other.
Robinho for Ganso Swap Between Milan and Santos?
4 of 10Robinho could be on the way to the club where his famed career began, as an attempt by Milan to acquire star midfield youngster Paulo Henrique Ganso from Santos is a possibility.
The 22-year-old has been on the radar of all of Europe's top clubs for some time, but recently, Milan and Inter have been revealed as the top two choices for the Brazilian.
The other day, it was reported that Tiago Ferro, whose company owns 55 percent of Ganso's contract, had arrived in Milan to get a deal done between Milan and Santos.
Santos are believed to want 20 million euros for Ganso, but Robinho, who earlier in the month had attracted interest from his former club, could be added to the deal to reduce the cost of getting the playmaker.
Samir Handanovic: Udinese to Inter Milan
5 of 10Samir Handanovic is one of the top keepers in both Serie A and the world. He was fourth in the league in goals against, second in clean sheets and sixth in saves.
Due in large part to Handanovic's performance, Udinese qualified for the Champions League for the second consecutive season, once again entering at the playoff round of qualification.
The Slovenian has been linked to Inter Milan since April. He wouldn't be available cheap. Handanovic is under contract until June 2016 and again is one of the best around.
Will he actually move, though?
Sure, Inter are historically a bigger club, but they are playing Europa League football starting in the third qualifying round, while Udinese are in the final round of qualification for the Champions League. Both may end up in the Europa League, but there is a better chance at big football with Udinese.
Juan from Roma to Flamengo for Thomas Jaguaribe
6 of 10The 33-year-old Brazilian Juan is said to be on his way out of Rome and out of Italy altogether, as Brazilian side Flamengo are interested in him and have put an interesting offer on the table for Luis Enrique's side.
In exchange for the center-back, Flamengo are ready to give up teenage striker Thomas Jaguaribe to get him.
Jaguaribe, a 19-year-old Brazilian, recently earned promotion into the senior squad at the club after four years in the youth system, following a move from Botafogo. He didn't score in nine games at the senior level, but he has still reportedly been called in to play for the Brazilian U-20 squad.
He has the potential to be a great player. This could be a good move for Roma.
Giuseppe Rossi: Villareal to Genoa or Napoli
7 of 10The American-born Italian international is out until 2013 because of complications with an ACL injury that he picked up in October against Real Madrid.
Rossi has drawn attraction from many big clubs in the past, including Barcelona last summer. Now that Villareal have been relegated to the Spanish Segunda Division, Rossi could be available at a cut price and the Yellow Submarines may be willing to sell.
Most recently, Genoa have become interested in Rossi with Napoli also said to be interested.
Ezequiel Lavezzi: Napoli to PSG or Inter Milan
8 of 10Lavezzi really emerged this year, and while Edinson Cavani stole the headlines, the Argentine has caught the attention of some big clubs.
Paris Saint-Germain are on their way to the Champions League next season and are reportedly very interested in adding Lavezzi into the squad, especially since it seems unlikely that Alexandre Pato will leave AC Milan.
Former Palermo star Javier Pastore joined PSG last summer and would love to have his former opponent as a teammate.
Inter Milan and Anzhi Makhachkala are also linked to the forward.
Kwadwo Asamoah: Udinese to Juventus
9 of 10Kwadwo Asamoah is one of the brightest young talents in the world. The Ghanaian international has attracted all sorts of attention in the last year, with Manchester United, AC Milan and Juventus all among the clubs that have expressed interest in the midfielder.
Milan seem to be out of the running, while reports indicate that United had a bid rejected and the current champions are ready to close in.
Asamoah is expected to be worth about 12 million euros, but it may take a little more to get him. He may want to stay at Udinese with Champions League group stage football a possibility.
Who knows though. Asamoah is destined to be playing big-time football.
Stevan Jovetic: Fiorentina to Roma or Premier League
10 of 10Jovetic missed all of the 2010-11 season with an injury but before that was the brightest young star in Serie A. He is rightfully attracting a lot of interest.
Reports out of Italy reveal that Roma have emerged as a potential suitor for the Montenegrin. He is under contract until 2016 and Fiorentina want to build a future around him, but Roma are determined to build up their squad in the summer.
Jovetic's asking price will be around 30 million euros, with Chelsea and Manchester City also interested in the midfielder.
