What I Learned From This Year's Super Bowl
I learned quite a lot actually from this year's playoffs. Because of this, I compiled a short list of stuff I learned throughout the playoffs. I share them all with you my fans, and fans of football itself. Cheers, and hope you enjoy my piece.
If you wear black and white, and have a whistle, you’re always wrong.
Referees. The zebras. The people everybody loves to hate. This season in the NFL, they have been getting bashed in and out—Ed Hochuli especially. Yes, Hochuli made a mistake. While he affected the outcome of a game, the Chargers made the playoffs anyway. So in the end, it doesn't matter anymore.
About the Super Bowl—was there a lot of penalties? I would say there was quite a few. But about the outcome being affected by the penalties, I would say no. All the penalties were on both teams, so get over it. The game was called right down the middle. If you want to argue, think about this—didn't Arizona get two points because of a holding call in the end zone? Didn't Arizona have 11 penalties in the game? Once again I say, called right down the middle.
Why have instant replay if we don’t use it?
It seems everything was replayed in the playoffs, even in the Super Bowl. But, in the last ten seconds of the very last game in the NFL season, with everything on the line, you couldn't even review the play not even for a second. That just baffles me. It just seems funny. Doesn't it?
2008 and 2009 was not the year for the underdog in sports
Remember how every one jumped on the Tampa Bay Rays bandwagon? What happened to them? They were shut down. With the Lakers and Celtics, the Lakers were the underdog, and they too were shut down. Penguins versus Red Wings—the Penguins were the underdog, and they were shut down. Simply put, the Cardinals were rooted for all last night through out America, and the Cardinals lost. No, they didn't choke. They lost. The underdog can't pull it out—again.
The best defense is a good defense.
How many times have we seen this from the Steelers? They don't score a lot of points. They run the ball, even when they are doing badly. They only scored 20 points on offense and earned roughly 60 yards rushing. To top things off, Roethlisberger manages the game, and gets above 200 passing yards and throws pretty much a near perfect game. In addition, the Steelers defense comes through again—barely!
The best defense is a good defense. While the Cardinals threw the ball for 377 yards in the game, they could only muster up 21 points on offense. Through those stats, it shows the Cardinals offense played well enough to win the game. If only the one interception that Warner threw didn't count…
