Let The Fans Decide: Minnesota Vikings, Second Round Selection
After my first round article, I had to follow it up with a second round.
Percy Harvin won the overall percentage of votes in the poll. Coming in second place was North Carolina Wide Receiver Hakeem Nicks. Therefore, Minnesota's first round selection for now is—Drum-roll please...Percy Harvin!
The second round will be much easier for the Vikings to choose from. The need for Wide Receiver is complete. But, what happens to the dreadful need at right tackle?
In the picture above is South Carolina Offensive Tackle, Jamon Meredith. His stock is rising from round three all the way up to round two.
The Kansas City Chiefs, have been rumored to be interested in New England Patriots Quarterback, Matt Cassel. This move seems very intelligent, seeing as it would re-unite Matt with his former General Manager, Scott Pioli.
Minnesota will have to focus on getting a Quarterback in free-agency or in the draft.
Here are a few likely options for the Vikings to look at for pick No. 54:
1. Phil Loadholt, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma
2. Jamon Meredith, Offensive Tackle, South Carolina
3. Fenuki Tupou, Offensive Tackle, Oregon
4. Nate Davis, Quarterback, Ball State
5. Sen'Derrick Marks, Defensive Tackle, Auburn
6. Mike Mickens, Cornerback, Cincinnati
7. Alphonso Smith, Cornerback, Wake Forest
8. William Moore, Safety, Missouri
William Moore, likely won't fall this far down. His stock is slipping though nonetheless. Nate Davis, could be available in round three, so I don't believe Minnesota will take a chance on him this early.
The player I would like to see drafted by Minnesota is Phil Loadholt. How can you not be tempted by a 6'9", 325 pound monster. He would fill the glaring need at right tackle. Although he may go within the first 10 picks of the second round, I think he could slip a little bit.
Please let me know what you think! I will be adding a third round on Wednesday and a fourth round on Friday. As always, your percentage of votes will go towards my 2009 NFL mock draft, that will be out in mid-February.
