Requiem For a Dream: Matches That Should Be at Wrestlemania 25
We are two months away from arguably the biggest Wrestlemania in history. But in order for the 25th Anniversary of the Greatest Spectacle in Sports Entertainment to live up to the hype, several things need to happen. Mainly, the matches have to be nothing short of monumental.
So here's some matches that should be on the card for that night...
Randy Orton vs. Vince McMahon

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
The Legend Killer is bound for the main event at Wrestlemania. But because of his recent actions, he should have to face The Boss. This wouldn't be the first time that Vince McMahon has stepped in between the ropes. And this wouldn't be the first time that Vince would face a future Hall of Famer at Wrestlemania either.
He calls himself the Legend Killer. What a feather in his cap to defeat arguably one of the biggest legends in the WWE. Defeating Vince McMahon at his illegitimate love child known as Wrestlemania would cement his legacy more than winning another championship.
Edge vs. Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Christian Cage vs. Triple H vs. Vladimir Kozlov
The Rated R Superstar has shined bright at Wrestlemania...but so have four of the five men in this match. What better way to find out who deserves to rule SmackDown than have the six biggest egos collide for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania?
For Edge, it's a chance to defeat Triple H outright. For The Game, it's a chance to prove that 13 is a lucky number for him. For Vladimir, if he is still undefeated, he can cement his place in history by winning the gold...something not even Goldberg can say he did during his undefeated streak in WWE.
But then there's the other three men involved in this match. For Matt, it's a way to get out of his brother's dark shadow. For Christian Cage, it's a chance to prove that he is better than his brother. And for Jeff Hardy, it's all about redemption and repentance. But the downside of this match: The fact that Cage would only be fighting for about a month before he gets a shot at the gold.
John Cena vs. The Undertaker
Before Wrestlemania 24, John Cena was working on an undefeated Wrestlemania streak of his own. Since his first appearance, Cena has defeated both members of DX, The Big Show and JBL. But he lost his first match last year when he lost to Randy Orton in a Triple Threat match.
But the Chain Gang Commander has some unfinished business with The Deadman.
Before Cena and Taker went their separate ways, they were involved in a high octane rivalry. At Vengeance, The Undertaker finished the war off with a victory over the freestyling version of John Cena. But these two would make a very impressive match. This match was supposed to happen years ago when Taker won the Royal Rumble...but the WWE thought that a battle between Batista and The Deadman would be better.
In all honesty, if Cena wants to become a heel again, this is the match that could make that happen.
Vladimir Kozlov vs. The Undertaker
He is undefeated. He demands better competition. He has yet to win gold, but he has defeated some of the biggest and best on SmackDown. So who can he defeat to finally get that title shot?
Two words: The Undertaker.
The Deadman is undefeated at Wrestlemania. He has a list of who's who as his victims which includes Triple H, Randy Orton, Batista, Kane, Kevin Nash and even the current WWE Champion Edge. A battle between these two titans would not only be phenomenal but monumental.
For Kozlov, it's a chance to do what many have vowed but failed to do. If he could defeat The Undertaker at Wrestlemania, there's no question that Kozlov would be the next in line for a championship match. For Undertaker, it's a chance to continue his impressive streak...not to mention hand Kozlov his first loss in his career.
Chris Jericho vs. Mickey Rourke
It's been talked about for at least a week. It's been on...then off...then on...you get the idea. But this match needs to happen. For Jericho to say that he has no respect for Rourke should be able to light a fire.
Besides, celebrities always want to be a part of The Granddaddy of Them All. So why not have Mickey Rourke face Chris Jericho? Haven't we seen celebrities jump into the ring and lock horns with the biggest and baddest in the WWE? Sumo Champion Akebono faced The Big Show, Donald Trump appeared in The Battle of the Billionaires and Boxing Champion Floyd "Money" Mayweather battled The Big Show in last year's Wrestlemania.
So why not see if Rourke has what it takes? He's being trained by one of the greats in The Nature Boy Ric Flair. Can you imagine the ultimate embarrassment for Jericho to lose to someone who just played a wrestler in the movies? For someone who claims to be the best in the world, there is nothing more shocking than watching an actor defeat you in front of a worldwide audience at Wrestlemania.
MITB: Matt Hardy vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Kennedy vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Christian Cage
Matt Hardy made it clear that he is only looking out for himself. Wouldn't it be interesting if Jeff Hardy came out of nowhere and kept his brother from winning The Money In The Bank Ladder Match? Considering the caliber of talent in this match, this should be an off the wall match.
With his boss facing the WWE, ECW or World Heavyweight Champion in the main event, it's obvious that the only way this would be even better is if either Ted DiBiase or Cody Rhodes made it into this match. Add in some high flyers like Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio and you just need one final piece of the puzzle to complete a four and a half star matchup.
That's when you tack on two certified loudmouths in the form of former Money in the Bank winner Kennedy and former TNA World Champion Christian Cage. In this one match, you have underdogs, fan favorites, potential shockers and the possibility of a repeat winner. Oh yeah, let's not forget about the ladders.
Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho
The Legend Killer versus the self proclaimed best in the business. What more could you ask for? We all knew that RAW most likely wouldn't survive with these two egos battling it out night in and night out. So why not make this a match where the loser is sent to another brand?
Orton would be going in to face the World Champion. According to fans, the World Champion will be Chris Jericho. The fans think that Jericho deserves to be World Champion heading into Wrestlemania. But we all know that two heels wouldn't work, so someone would have to switch sides.
Randy Orton vs. Edge
We've seen tag team partners face each other at Wrestlemania. Rey Mysterio faced the late Eddie Guerrero a few years ago. But this would be perfect for Wrestlemania...if Edge survives the Elimination Chamber still the WWE Champion.
Randy Orton has not announced who he will face at Wrestlemania and for which title. A match against Jack Swagger wouldn't even be worth the price of admission. Orton could take him out easily. Another encounter with Cena? Please. Not again. But a match to find out who really carried the load during their time as Rated RKO?
That would be...simply priceless.
Both men will be in the Hall of Fame someday. Both have found success at Wrestlemania (Orton winning the Triple Threat Match last year and Edge winning the first Money In the Bank Ladder Match)...but in order to bring complete balance to the WWE, one of these egos has to fall at Wrestlemania. Instead of having Triple H facing Edge and Cena facing Orton, have Randy Orton facing Edge.
We all want Vickie Guerrero to suffer the ultimate downfall, which would be Edge losing the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania for the second straight year. But losing to Randy Orton would be something that neither of them could get past.
JBL vs. Shawn Michaels
This match needs to happen for one reason: Shawn's return to greatness instead of obscurity. JBL is the reason that many people can't get past this new HBK. With Wrestlemania two months away, HBK not only did not compete in The Royal Rumble Match...he isn't headlining Wrestlemania.
The ultimate revenge for Shawn: Defeating and embarrassing his "employer" at Wrestlemania. We all know that this match will happen. But for it to happen at Wrestlemania would be the sweetest revenge of them all. JBL is not worthy of main event status, and we all know that as well.
The Wrestling Fraud facing The Showstopper in a Lone Star Slugfest in Houston? Brilliant!
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. JBL
There is no question that JBL claims to be the greatest superstar in the world. His financial savvy got him a shot at Cena's World Heavyweight Championship at The Royal Rumble. His intelligence almost got him a spot in The Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out. He also claims to be the best thing to come out of Texas...ever!
Unfortunately, there is someone who feels insulted by such a comment.
He is the Toughest SOB in the WWE. He is the Texas Rattlesnake. And after the HOF ceremony, he can add another title to his resume: Hall of Famer. In his home state of Texas, Stone Cold Steve Austin will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. But what better way to seal his fate than by delivering one more Stunner at Wrestlemania?
Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy
After a shocking turn of events at The Royal Rumble, we now know that The Hardy Boyz' laundry list of accomplishments will end with Matt turning his back on his brother and costing him the WWE Championship at The Rumble.
This should lead to one thing and one thing only: A Wrestlemania match between the former brothers.
Matt and Jeff have never faced each other in singles competition. And if the WWE is determined to resurrect the storyline of Matt turning on Jeff one more time, they might as well do it right. It's obvious that Matt's current demeanor leaves many to believe that he will do whatever it takes to keep Jeff from once again becoming WWE Champion.
So why not have these two battle in an epic encounter at Wrestlemania?
After several years delivering five star matches as a tag team at Wrestlemania, it's only fitting that if they intend to either keep them on the same show or send one to another brand, they should have the match of a lifetime in Houston.
Mattitude vs. The Charismatic Enigma one on one at Wrestlemania? That's must see tv right there. Only this time...we finally get the match that we were supposed to have seven years ago.
