Pep Guardiola: 10 Most Likely Future Destinations for the Ex-Barcelona Manager

Joe TanseyJun 7, 2018

After the end of the La Liga season, Pep Guardiola left Barcelona after four seasons in charge of the Catalan club.

While in his time managing at the Camp Nou, the 41-year-old won 13 titles including two UEFA Champions League titles and three La Liga titles, although he did not win this season's edition of the Spanish first division losing out to rivals Real Madrid.

With Guardiola finding a great deal of success with the club he grew up at, it is now time for the Spaniard to move on.

Although he has claimed he will not take a job next season somewhere else, clubs will go after the manager regardless of if he is interested or not.

Here are 10 clubs that Guardiola could potentially go to not just for the next season but in the future as well.

Chelsea

1 of 10

What manager has not been linked with a move to Chelsea?

With the ultimate goal of winning the Champions League always being an unreachable goal for owner Roman Abramavich, and Guardiola already achieving that twice, it could be a marriage made in heaven for owner and manager.

Guardiola has proven that Champions League success is something he can achieve, but could he deal with the pressure from Abramavich and the short fuse he has when it comes to managers?

Manchester City

2 of 10

Manchester City just won their first Premier League title in 44 years and are looking to do more of the same in the years to come.

At City, Guardiola would be able to have an expansive transfer budget to bring in whichever players he would like to bring into the Etihad Stadium.

Also, Guardiola knows how to manage a dynasty as he showed that within his four seasons at Barcelona.

If and when Roberto Mancini exits the blue side of Manchester, Guardiola could be the man to continue on with his legacy.

Al-Wasl

3 of 10

Al-Wasl in the United Arab Emirates has already attracted one high profile coach in Diego Maradona, and could do the same with Guardiola.

Maradona is also getting paid a generous sum of money by managing in the UAE, as his annual salary is around 3.5 million euros.

Not only could the money attract Guardiola but the former Spanish international also played in the Middle East in Qatar when he played for Al-Ahli from 2003 to 2005.

Inter Milan

4 of 10

Inter is one of the top European clubs although they have had some managerial problems since Jose Mourinho left for Real Madrid in 2010.

Rafa Benitez, Leonardo and Gian Piero Gasperini have all seen time as the man in charge at the San Siro, but none of them stayed long.

As the club will be rebuilding, next season may not be the right season to take over at Inter for Guardiola. However, once the club gains a spot back in the Champions League, they could go after Pep.

Paris St. Germain

5 of 10

Paris St. Germain is one of the clubs in Europe that is coming to prominence because of newly found money.

PSG has already attracted big names such as Leonardo as their sporting director, and Carlo Ancelotti as manager, as well some big name players like Javier Pastore, Diego Lugano, Alex and Thiago Motta.

With a roster beginning to fill with big names, and world renowned names joining the front office, Guardiola could be attracted to the squad that the Ligue 1 squad.

New York Red Bulls

6 of 10

Ever since the re-branding of the New York Red Bulls from the MetroStars in 2006, the MLS franchise has been after big names.

The Red Bulls have brought in International stars like Thierry Henry and has also seen players like Jozy Altidore, Tim Howard and Tim Ream come through the system getting time with European clubs.

Since its inception in 1996, the franchise has only had two American managers, Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley, and could easily bring in Guardiola to continue the tradition of foreign managers.

Los Angeles Galaxy

7 of 10

The other notable MLS franchise, LA Galaxy, are another club who have also gone after designated players and managers with a lot of experience.

Guardiola could follow in the footsteps of Ruud Gullit, who managed in Europe before making the move to the Home Depot Center in 2007.

The only difference between the Red Bulls and Galaxy is that the Red Bulls would attract more European players while the Galaxy are more willing to go after developing American and players from Mexico.

Arsenal

8 of 10

Why not throw Arsenal into the mix of possible Guardiola destinations?

Yes, Arsene Wenger ha been there since 1996 and will leave the Gunners when he retires, but it is never too early to speculate who his successor may be.

The media has done the same thing with Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United for the longest time and it is only a matter of time before the same speculation reaches Wenger.

Liverpool

9 of 10

In your dreams. Liverpool fans: Until your club gets good enough to contend for a title again, Guardiola will never even think of coming to Anfield.

But, when the Reds do become good again and need a manager to take them to ultimate goal of the Premier League title, he may consider that position.

However, that goal may be reachable in a few years and you never know what the employment status of Guardiola will be at that time.

Spain

10 of 10

Although they are not a club team, the Spanish national team may be the best option for Guardiola.

He already has a familiarity with close to half of the starting lineup by coaching them at Barcelona, and he would also be familiar with how the majority of the players play because most of the team plays in La Liga.

Out of all the possibilities listed in the previous slides, Spain makes the most sense and Guardiola could be the next man to continue the Spanish dynasty into the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
