Players Championship 2012 Leaderboard: Kevin Na Will Conquer Swing to Secure Win
Kevin Na is battling more than tough TPC Sawgrass for the 2012 Players Championship, but his swing struggles won't stop him from keeping his spot atop the leaderboard for an improbable win at golf's "fifth major."
If you are watching the tournament, then you know what I'm talking about.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Na's struggles, he has been put on the clock by officials more than once for his inability to pull the trigger, according to U-T San Diego, due to the fact that he takes hundreds of waggles per round.
This is due to the fact that Na is in the midst of a massive swing change that causes him to feel unbalanced as he addresses the ball.
It's frustrating for Na, according to The Washington Post:
"As ugly as it is, and as painful as it is, believe me, it’s really tough for me, and I’m trying. I’m trying to get comfortable with my waggles. It’s usually a little waggle, half-waggle, little waggle, half-waggle, and boom, I’m supposed to pull the trigger. I’m not being nice to myself. I’m ripping myself.
"
Through seven holes, Na has dropped a shot and is now tied with Matt Kuchar for the lead. He has birdied one hole while posting two bogies, but if we've learned anything about his game it's that there will be plenty more birdies before the round is done.
It's hard to believe that a player with so much negativity going on inside his head could manage to win a golf tournament—let alone the Players Championship—but Na continues to hit excellent shot after excellent shot, even under the pressures being in the final group on Sunday.
This tournament will do wonders for his confidence going forward after Na overcomes his demons to win the 2012 Players Championship.
