Leafs Win 5-4 and Turn Doug Gilmour Night Into Luke Schenn's Game
The Leafs honoured former captain Doug Gilmour on Saturday night and while he watched the game with the Jr. A Kingston Frontenacs team he coaches, a future Leafs captain appeared.
Luke Schenn, 19, was the first star of the night. The big defenceman was a strong presence throughout the game, showing why he's called The Human Eraser and why he gets compared to Tim Horton. He managed to assist on a goal as well
Schenn was selected fifth overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Formerly he played for the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League.

It was all tied up at the end of the first period. The Leafs went up by two in the second and then the Penguins scored three goals in the third. The Leafs however, got another two to hang on for the win.
The Penguins lost to the New Jersey Devils the night before and sleepwalked through the first two periods before coming back alive for the final frame. They were down 3-1 but scored three times to tie the game.
The Penguins pulled the goalie, called a time-out, and kept Crosby and Malkin on the ice together at the end of the game, but the hometown team was able to keep them off the scoreboard and the Leafs won another one.
The toughest play of the game was a hit by Luke Schenn on Evgeni Malkin. Schenn surprised Malkin and then fought Tyler Kennedy.
Goals by Toronto's Ian White and Pittsburgh's Miroslav Satan had the teams tied 1-1 after the first. Nik Antropov, who had recently ended a 16-game scoring drought, scored his second game in two nights. Alexei Ponikarovsky scored about five minutes later to put the Leafs ahead 3-1.
Crosby, Malkin, and Kennedy scored in the third but the Leafs got goals from Matt Stajan and Blake. The game-winner scored by Blake, came halfway through the third period. It was Blake's fourth goal in four games.
Crosby and Malkin have combined for 42 career points against the Maple Leafs in just 22 games, but had trouble this time as each of them had a Leaf right on their backs every time they touched the puck. Malkin's goal, assisted by Crosby, was his 21st goal of the season, which puts him one ahead of Crosby.
