The Bruno Boys Favorite Super Bowl Memories

Michael WhooleyJan 31, 2009

Sunday will be a special day. Super Bowl Sunday always is. Wings, beer, and the ultimate football game. It doesn't get much better than that. For the 43rd time, we will witness the crowning of the Super Bowl champion, and while each and every Super Bowl holds its own precious moments, there are some that we as individuals cherish more than others.

As such, the Bruno Boys would like to share with you our favorite Super Bowl memories. And, be sure you don't let us be the only ones walking down memory lane. Feel free to add your own favorite Super Bowl memories in the comments section below!

BRUNO BOYS WHOOLEY

I'm normally not one to relish in others' heartache; however, there are exceptions, especially when it comes to the world of sports. I mean we all have those teams we love to hate. Growing up, being a resident of the Bay Area, it was always the Los Angeles Dodgers and Dallas Cowboys / Green Bay Packers that felt my scorn; however, a stay back in New England for college, quickly added both the Red Sox and Patriots to my list of teams to hate. Spend a year back there living amongst Red Sox and Pats fans and you'll quickly understand. Thus, David Tyree's miracle catch and the New York Giants upset of the 18-0 Patriots in Super Bowl XLII definitely ranks up there among my favorite Super Bowl moments. But, it's not my favorite.

As nice as it can be to relish in someone else's misery, it's even better to experience the joy that comes in witnessing your team achieve the ultimate goal, a Super Bowl Championship. Thus, until the San Francisco 49ers raise the Lombardi Trophy once more (and, let's be honest that could be some time away), Super Bowl XXIX will sit atop the list of my favorite Super Bowl moments. At the age of 11, it was the first of the Niners five Super Bowls that I was truly able to appreciate, and let me tell you, when Steve Young threw TD passes of 44-yards to Jerry Rice and 51-yards to Ricky Waters to give the Niners a 14-0 lead with less than five minutes gone by in the game, I was enjoying every bit of it. It was utter domination as the Niners defeated the Chargers 49 to 26, making them the first team to hoist the Lombardi Trophy five times.

Though I was young at the time, my favorite Super Bowl memory was watching Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers dominate the Denver Broncos 55-10 in Super Bowl XXIV. I loved watching the 49ers dynasty back then and the Broncos were one of my most hated teams so the way the game played out was just awesome to watch. And Montana was fantastic as he was 22 of 29 for 297 yards and five touchdowns.
